my parachute didn't open
and when my back up failed
the pixie dust prevailed
and i woke up next to you
all i wanted was to hold you

i was born in a city
however small
it held a hospital
for location where i came into being
it was all down hill from there

what do you do
when your lifes a disaster
and your moving faster
and its getting harder to breathe

what do you say
if someone is right but
you disagree
even if its the truth

i was told you are depressed
by a little bird
that was severly hurt
as it did not notice my window
it just flew wherever the wind blows
as it convulsed on the pavement
it whispered i am hated
your genetic flaws
i said say it all
you cant decipher reflections form reality
but neither can i

i noticed neither can i
i noticed neither can i
i noticed neither can i

you are the circle
i am the square
i have the non cut
you have the cool hair
we both take showers
for almost an hour
but only once a week or two

what do you do
when your lifes a disaster
and your moving faster
and its getting harder to breathe

what do you say
if someone is right but
you disagree even if its the truth

I think this song is more simple than you guys think.. he starts in a nightmare that goes into a dreamland waking up next to a hot girl (madi). everything is downhill from there cuz he leaves her to go off to another day of reality (work/school).

The rest of the lyrics are whatever you make of em tho. I see them as struggling to make a relationship work or coping with life and trying to make sense of it.

I can't even fathom what this song means.

Because really, only Dan knows what it means.

But I suppose it could mean anything to anyone.

I see a bunch of different meanings in it.

Basically, it seems like life sucks throughout the beginning.

The part about the bird is interesting, though. Here's what I think: People tend to go with the flow, and then something happens, and we crash into the window. "Convulsing on the pavement," we think that because everything's going wrong, the world hates us. The fact is, no one can "decipher reflections from reality," we hardly know what's the right thing to do, and sometimes we go down a path that crashes us into a window.

He starts off saying that it's the bird's fault because he's a bird, but then adds that he can't do it either. We judge each other for things that we can't control, when really we're all the same inside. The fact that the bird, in his pitiable position, can still tell him that he's depressed shows how bad it is for him.

And I'd like to add that the first paragraph is amazing.

i think that its about a girl that is totally in love with a guy.. and when she thinks that she is getting close.. he pushes her away .. just like it said " as it did not notcie my window '' just like a bird flies into a window everynow and then not noticing that it was there

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
