Basically, it seems like life sucks throughout the beginning.

The part about the bird is interesting, though. Here's what I think: People tend to go with the flow, and then something happens, and we crash into the window. "Convulsing on the pavement," we think that because everything's going wrong, the world hates us. The fact is, no one can "decipher reflections from reality," we hardly know what's the right thing to do, and sometimes we go down a path that crashes us into a window.

He starts off saying that it's the bird's fault because he's a bird, but then adds that he can't do it either. We judge each other for things that we can't control, when really we're all the same inside. The fact that the bird, in his pitiable position, can still tell him that he's depressed shows how bad it is for him.

And I'd like to add that the first paragraph is amazing.
