Day out, day in
It's the alarm versus me
And the snooze button wins.
I've been waking all my life
To become what I'm going to be.
I'm a crone, la da da da da da
A headstone

Day out, day in
And begin again

Day out, day in
Recycle bins
Cash out, cash in
Debit pins
Day out, day in
The paper cuts my skin again
Skin again

Cash out, cash in
I can burn all I earn
On some weakness or whim
Without thinking
I'm a mark for their marketing plans
I'm Americancer
A Myspace romancer

Cash out, cash in
And begin again

Day out, day in
Recycle bins
Cash out, cash in
Debit pins
Day out, day in
The paper cuts my skin again
Skin again

Day out, day in
Vitamins
Give out, give in
Vicodins
Day out, day in
The paper cuts my skin again
Skin again
Skin again
Skin again

All ye, all ye, come home free
Olly Olly oxen free
Day in, day out
I call time out

All ye, all ye, come home free
Olly Olly oxen free
Day in, day out
I call time out
I call time out

Give out, give in
If a man's hands show his trade does it suit me then
This papercut skin that makes me wince with each hand
I'm required to
Shake, shake, shake, shake

Day out, day in
Recycle bins
Cash out, cash in
Debit pins
Day out, day in
The paper cuts my skin again
Skin again

Day out, day in
Vitamins
Give out, give in
Vicodins
Day out, day in
The paper cuts my skin again
Skin again
Skin again
Skin again

I call time out
Olly Olly oxen free

SWEET! First poster for this fucking song. Sad that I really don't have anything vital to add as far as song meaning goes. I really suck when it comes to interpretations of lyrics. But really, isn't that the beauty of songs anyway? The fact that everyone sees it differently?

    Anyway...

This song is definitely about money, to me. The money being what cuts his skin. He's a 'mark for their marketing plans' which to me means that he's falling into what most bands do when they try to make it big. They have to change their style of their songs or whatever, not because they want to, but because someone else thinks that it's good marketing. It's the reason why most bands wear eyeliner, tight pants, and dangle their hair infront of their eyes these days. It's what's in right now. A band dressed like that is more likely to get higher sales because fan girls can swoon over them and quiver at the sight of them, and fan boys can carry on the trend.

And to me, it's like he's saying that it has gotten so bad that he doesn't even want to wake up in the morning.. hence the first verse. And also, the part where he says he's calling 'Time out'. It means he's ending the 'game' and calling 'ollie ollie oxen free' so that everyone can come out of hiding. Maybe he's sick of all the marketing bullshit and having money be the basis for everything.

Or that meaning could be a bunch of shit. Who knows? Who cares?

The good thing is, I've been listening to The Matches for atleast a year now.. and I was lucky enough to see them in late July when they were touring with Action Action at the Agora. They were fucking awesome live. Even when Shawn fucked up the words in 'Sick Little Suicide'.

You gotta love this band. Even if you hate Decomposer. The Matches are just... awesome.

And fuck if I have any typos. I don't care.

    "I'm Americancer A Myspace romancer!"-my favourite line...

i think this song is about livin a routine, it's about writting songs, being a musician for a living..it could also be about working in a random office-job, sdepends on how you look at it, but from the quote above, i think it's more about the music bussiness.

I highly recommend this song to listen to while doing homework. Somehow it just makes it a bit less blah. Probably because of the whol routine, same old same old theme. Try it.

i think this song is about this song is about trying to achive the american dream. what convinced me is the line "I've been waking all my life to become what I'm going to be" he means he has been trying to achive the american dream, but no matter how hard he tries, he is going nowhere. after a while, he starts feeling hopeless "day out day in, recycle bins" and starts to not care "i can burn all i earn on some weakness or whim" he says "i'm americancer" because the same thing is happening to people all across the country and its making things worse. finally, he realizes whats happening "i call time out" and in the third verse, i think he just gives in to the routine even though he hates it and it makes him sick. kick ass song, it really got me into the matches. i wish i could see them wtih +44

okay, i'm not going to say my interpretation, because it's basically the same as everyone else's. but i just was wondering, does anyone know what they're saying in the beginning? like, the backwards words?

I love the matches because theyre strange.

I think Bummerx got it right. I remember back in like 2002 or somethin', when they were brand new and no one knew them. They didn't look like they do now at all. I first time I herd them was when I was 12. Yeah, kudos for BummerX. I think that's exactly it. At first I thought of working at a Grocery store...

It's about the poem "Michael Finnigan"

There was a man, named Michael Finnigan He had wiskers on his chin-again They grew out, and then grew in again. Poor old Michal Finnigan, Begin again.

Also, the backwards part at the beginning? Read the above. Thats what it is.

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
