Don't give me no comic book
Sad looks no more
Please don't use those same
Excuses you used before
You told yourself so
Many times it's okay
So eager to try
But you just don't know how to come back down

And now you beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground

Beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground (on the ground)

Oh how 'bout those people I know
That you know the ones I mean
Not so good not so bad
Only know what they have
And they have only what they've seen
Then the mediocre bad guys
Can really bring you down
They can't be defeated and you know
Never gonna come around

They just beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground

Beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground

They beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground (on the ground)

They beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground (on the ground)

They beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground (on the ground)

They beat me up and break me down
Hoping I don't come around
Kick me when I'm on the ground (on the ground)

My favorite off of On and On. I love the guitars in this. Motivates me to ignore the naysayers because they don't mean anything...

That bit near the end, from "somebody saw him jump..." to "guess we lost another one..." are actually from a different song, from Fall Line. This is a great song, perfect to listen to when you're mad at someone!

This is definetely one of his best of by far his best album. I love all of his albums but this album is a modern classic. I remeber laying back on a warm late summers night listening to this album for the first time and reaching the stage where your thinking "can this album get any better" and this came on. The beat kinda reminded me of a mid 90s mega drive game. I cant remember the title but you would walk through the streets as either a black dude, a white guy with spikey blonde hair or a woman hitting other gangs members with objects.

I loooove this song, its one I always put on repeat in my car! I think he might be talking about a bad friend, how they come around, then let you down... just what I think, any other ideas?

i think its about our society is very shallow minded " not so good not so bad only know what they have and they have only what theyve seen" Jack realizes that society's views cant be defeated and there never gonna come around

i think this song is about how by doing nothing good can also be just as harmful to those around us as doing something evil. by just doing what we know, and pretending to be good, it doesn't save us in the end. we must all do good if we want the reward in the end.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
