Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.
Daylight adorn her withering lifeforce
With a long lost river
That mend all her woe in its flow
May I redeem my funereal self
In thy mirror of soul sanctorum
To frame every night a delight
Thou stalk the ground, the sea and the winds around
To haunt me down profound when the night surrounds
Thou stalk the Stygian stream and the riverine
To haunt my hallowed fields and astrayal dreams
I'm at sixes and sevens
In the shade of thy heavens
No moon, nor sun
Meridian
Prevail in my oblivion
Come with me to seek the sun inside
Meridian
This time around we dance
We're chosen ones
Thou stalk as the unseen in visions undreamed
To revel in the deep of life's malignity
Thou stalk my manic mind yon it's horizon
To draw that waning sun upon Meridian
Thou art eternal darkness
Thou art eternal heresy
Thou art day and night
Thou art the flame inside
I'll make my misery thy saturnine
With a long lost river
That mend all her woe in its flow
May I redeem my funereal self
In thy mirror of soul sanctorum
To frame every night a delight
Thou stalk the ground, the sea and the winds around
To haunt me down profound when the night surrounds
Thou stalk the Stygian stream and the riverine
To haunt my hallowed fields and astrayal dreams
I'm at sixes and sevens
In the shade of thy heavens
No moon, nor sun
Meridian
Prevail in my oblivion
Come with me to seek the sun inside
Meridian
This time around we dance
We're chosen ones
Thou stalk as the unseen in visions undreamed
To revel in the deep of life's malignity
Thou stalk my manic mind yon it's horizon
To draw that waning sun upon Meridian
Thou art eternal darkness
Thou art eternal heresy
Thou art day and night
Thou art the flame inside
I'll make my misery thy saturnine

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Head > Heels

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
What kind of a review is that?!?! if you can't wrap your mind around poetic artistry then go listen to Britney Spears or something obviously more your speed! This song is easily the best on the album! Part of the attraction of "typical gothic lyrics" is that the listener can put their own interpretation on the music instead of being forced to the writer's. I personally like to think this is a pure vamp song...eternal darkness, eternal heresy...and of course the whole stalking thing.
But the writer was probably (in accordance with the rest of the cd) talking about despair stalking his mind...
Thank you rhenna, obviously afflicted4life IS afflicted with a narrow mind. I see the song as being a depiction of one who is wanting to be reedeemed from the state that they are currently in, poosibly being in a state of mental deterioration. It is saying that the insanity or manica that has infested his mind has forced him or her to a point being at sixes or sevens, meaning they can go either way, down into insanity, or be redeemed back into who they use to be before being infected. But you know, thats just me. I was not high when I found the meaning, so I think that afflicted4life shoud probably stick to the more simple and less talented boy bands like rhenna said.
This is a beautiful song!
Nice song. =)
it looks like some typical gothic lyrics that wont mean much to anyone. unless youre high.
Morten said in an interview that this song was about paranoia...
Beautifully written, I love it.
