With all the simple times behind me
I can fail without regret
If I have to try then I will never
Be able to forget
Bottoms down
And out of reasons to hang around

And when the sun is over Hong Kong
I can tell you where she'll be
Floating in a soft and lonely melody
Directly over me
Chocolate eyes at one time melting in mine
But not tonight

[Chorus]
She'll say I love you Paul
I love you Paul
I love you Paul
Hey, hey

And now everything is riding
On a bet that I can't win
If she's not the answer I've been looking for
I'll never ask again
Some say that the answer comes from within
Meanwhile

[Chorus]
Can you tell me where to find me?
Have you seen me hanging around?
I'm looking for myself each night till sunrise
The only thing I've found
Broken dreams and a heart that's stuck to the ground
And with a smile

[Chorus twice]

I think this song is from the perspective of Paul; first person. To me, Paul is telling the story of how he loves this woman. He has been building their relationship and finally wants to express his true feelings to this woman. He wants her to accept his love right away. However, he cannot work up the courage to tell her how he feels so he dreams of her. He then realizes how he does not have her, but dreams that one day she will come around, expressing her love to him.

The second stanza says that he has put everything on this woman accepting his love. If she doesn't accept it, he will simply give up with love. He seems to feel that he should know if she is the one for him.

The final stanza deals with Paul never working up the courage to express his feelings to the woman. He has realized that he simply kept dreaming of her, not pursuing his love. Ultimately, he is broken hearted, but still holds a love for this woman.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
