In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states âItâs about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.â
Thatâs the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think itâs about one thing, but really itâs about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. Thatâs one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoffâs beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
Come on, Barbie, let's go party
I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
I'm a blonde bimbo girl in a fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I'm your dolly
You're my doll, rock'n'roll, feel the glamour in pink
Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky
You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours" (ooh, oh)
I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please
I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees
Come jump in, bimbo friend, let us do it again
Hit the town, fool around, let's go party
You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours"
You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours"
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Janeâs Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boysâ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayesâ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on âPunchline.â This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. Heâs now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
This song symbolizes privileged but intrinsically flawed lifestyle of the bourgeose class, built on lies, broken promises, and the systematic oppression of the proletariot. This is best illustrated by the line, "Life in plastic is fantastic," which indicated that the "good life" enjoyed by the privileged few is a flimsy, manufactured, "plastic" facade built upon the bruised backs of the working class.
"You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere" is indicative of the oppressors' perception that the lower classes exist only to serve them -- in this case, by brushing their hair and undressing them -- and the tone of the song suggests, disturbingly, that these de facto slaves should be grateful for the opportunity to perform such servile tasks.
You, sir, win. That's it... You just win. Thank you so much for this...
@AlienMaybe From a feminist / anti barbie point of view you're absolute right! But that's not what this song is about (neither pro or contra oppression). I'm with Firenze131 on this one
