Ben Folds – From Above Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I might be wrong, but to me it sounds like "Staying that way forever" |
Belle & Sebastian – I Want the World to Stop Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Tinseltown is Hollywood, isn't it? I'm sure a wiki search would answer that. Anyway, one of the best songs on the new album. |

Wilco – Bull Black Nova Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Tweedy's commented that this is written from the point of view of a man who's just killed his girlfriend. Take from that what you will. |
The Snake the Cross the Crown – On The Threshold Of Eternitity Lyrics | 16 years ago |
On the Threshold of Eternity is the name of a painting by van Gogh. It can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vincent_Willem_van_Gogh_002.jpg |
The Snake the Cross the Crown – Echolalia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Thanks, I'll go through it and tweak it where that sounds right. |
Louis XIV – Misguided Sheep Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it's "bobs", like a shortening of the word "baubles". Not "barbs." |
Bear vs. Shark – Rich People Say Fuck Yeah Hey Hey Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I copied and pasted them directly from the band's message board, where the band posted the lyrics. So... maybe you should fuck off? |
Louis XIV – Tina Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm pretty sure that's "Can't you just turn me on some more?", and I hear "bottom lip", not "vile lip", but I could totally be wrong about that. |
Elliott Smith – Looking Over My Shoulder Lyrics | 16 years ago |
'Sonic "fuck you"' makes perfect sense. Learn what the word "sonic" means, and maybe you'll understand too. |
!!! – Bend Over Beethoven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
No, I think it's a play on Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven". The idea that this is what's new and the old should make way, or something. (I don't really have a clue. Just that bit about Chuck Berry.) |
Saves the Day – When I'm Not There Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Christ, this is angry. By the end, it sounds like the world is ending. I think it's "What you do" not "what's he do" |
Saves the Day – Hell Is Here Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"take all the smoke into my eyes" = "take one last look into my eyes" |

The Snake the Cross the Crown – Behold the River Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Please, anyone, help me out here. Particularly the parts where his voice is softer than the music. |
Murder by Death – Dynamite Mine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
From the site: "dynamite mine is a story of irony. its about a man who commits a murder in a mine where we works. He takes the victim there, kills him, and then buries him in the mine. Then, in a lovely twist of irony the murderer is killed under a rockfall that buries him next to his victim. the chorus is from the perspectives of the miners many years later who continue to tell the story of the mine and how the ghost of the murderer still lives deep in the belly of the mine. it goes: "son, cover your ears lord how the blast will ring and when a rumblin' shakes the walls you can hear that devil sing". oooooh. spooky" |
The Snake the Cross the Crown – The Fields of Ius Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I hear "anchorless." And "through the waves like ghosts." I think the "Or whatever land" is "I'd have ?? land" like the "We'd have love" later on. Also, "Came a name, and he..?" "I'm dying, then see How always the ?? life to be I'm more than a boy runaway Lost and found time has ?made?fade?" That's the best I can do... he doesn't really sing words when he hits those high notes. |
Brand New – The Archers Bows Have Broken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
jfk: "love" makes perfect sense. The Bible tells you to "love thy neighbor," and that means everyone, the Muslims, the Jews, the homosexuals, the serial rapists, everyone. (Please note, I am not Christian in ANY way.) But the Christians hold up the Bible and say that gay people are "inferior" (by not allowing marriage, you state that homosexual love is somehow "less" than heterosexual love, or that the Muslims are wrong or evil or whatever. The Bible preaches love (well, the New Testament), but most Christians use it to practice hate. |
The Snake the Cross the Crown – A Gathering of Shades Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's really hard to catch a lot of what he says. Help out if you can, please. I'll change it if it sounds right and makes sense |
Brand New – Untitled Lyrics | 17 years ago |
And what is the other part. There are two different things being said. I'll update it if someone can tell me. |
Stars – The Comeback Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Up in the top... unless there are printed lyrics I'm unaware of, he definitely says "land of Nod" which is a reference to, uh, being asleep. Which makes a lot more sense with the rest of that "woke up" and "dreams" stuff. |
Brand New – Degausser Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I hear the same thing. There's once or twice where it kind of sounds like "alkaline" but I hear "I'll find sleep in the end tonight" |
Bright Eyes – Blue Angels Air Show Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Along those same lines, I really appreciate when an artist re-releases old EPs and B-sides and stuff, like Noise Floor or Push Doorman to Open Old Wounds (Belle & Sebastian), because I really can't spend the time to track down every damn thing Conor has released. Song related: I saw the Blue Angels once. They were loud. |
Murder by Death – Brother Lyrics | 17 years ago |
From the site: "Brother is pretty straight forward. Its a song about two brothers who are very different but respect and love each other nonetheless. One of them is constantly in trouble with the law and the other feels an obligation towards respecting his brothers choice of his life. The lyrics really say it all, with the crux of the song being the line 'i know there's better brothers but you're the only one that's mine'. A bondsman comes looking for the troublesome hermano and thinks that the narrator is going to give in and tell him his location, but the narrator instead decides to stay true to his family rather than the law. the lyrics go 'so he's [the bondsman] standin' in the doorway like he owns the place with a look of smug satisfaction on his face... im gonna give you up, of that he's sure as hell, but i take one look at him and i know i'll never tell.'" |
Brand New – Untitled Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You see how no one knows? Soon as I have know what it is, I'll slide it right in there. But it's not a major part of the song. |
Brand New – Limousine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm pretty sure this is about a wedding. The first big clue is "it's your day to wed" but also lines about "petals in the aisles" and "your man... volunteering grace to end your life." Also, the seven count at the end is almost like a "How do I love thee, let me count the ways" The title could refer to how newlyweds will often leave in a limousine. There's probably more to my analysis, but I can't be buggered to do it now. |
Stars – Don't Be Afraid to Sing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's about loving, even when you know that eventually, it has to end. The important thing is not being afraid to love, not being afraid to sing. |
The Blood Brothers – Live at the Apocalypse Cabaret Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To add to what cellordore was saying, "The wild-eyed map of the afterlife is knitting tiny death lies." could be: wild-eyed - desperate or crazy map of the afterlife - bible/church death lies - the nonsense that the church feeds people about death not being the end, that there is "Heaven" or "Hell" (I'm not very religious). |
Sugarcult – Los Angeles Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah, they say fuck on about one song per album. |
Sugarcult – Riot Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"the lovers and thieves" |
Sugarcult – Made A Mistake Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's "I can hardly stand that you were mine" Seriously, the lyrics are on their site, and have been since before the record came out. |
Sugarcult – Majoring in Minors Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's "I don't belong here any longer holding on this tight". I thought it was about, like, right after a breakup. He's upset and bitter and trying to let go. She's been lying to him, maybe about why they broke up, or maybe those lies like "I want to spend some time alone" or whatever. The second verse is about how right after a breakup, if you're still around each other, you keep watching that person, keeping tabs or whatever. (Especially applicable in smal towns where you can't escape that shit.) He "gets closer with the silent treatment," meaning that he's trying to get over it by ignoring her, cutting her out of his life. |
Get Set Go – One Hundred Locks Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm pretty sure it's "The starless and the moonless night" |
Get Set Go – Jesus Christ Wore Leather Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hokay... "Jesus Christ wore leather, played rock and roll, he sold me some blow" "Buddha smoked me out, then sucked me off, and swalloed my seed" "inpediment" = "inveterate" (I think it actually says "invertibrate" in the liner, but I'm not sure, and I don't hear the "b") "plea" = "bleed" The meaning: It's about how we put people like Jesus and Mother Teresea on a pedastal, but they're just as fucked up as the rest of us. Everyone has flaws, everyone has problems. |
The Blood Brothers – You're the Dream, Unicorn! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
At first glance... and I could be completely wrong... this could be about Las Vegas. Obviously, I suppose, since he says "Vegas". Either way, I could see that as being a theme throughout, a lot of the lyrics seem to describe some kind of spectacle that could easily be the Las Vegas strip, and a sense of hopelessness at being trapped within said spectacle. ...but there's probably more to it than that. |
The Blood Brothers – Laser Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
...Not to rain on your parade, but I own the CD and don't have any liner notes. That's what iTunes does, legal paid for digital format and all. |
Minus the Bear – Get Me Naked 2: Electric Boogaloo Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The Fall Out Boy misspelling is on purpose, it's a play on words. "Atavan Halen" Get it?.. I didn't say it was any good... |
My Chemical Romance – House Of Wolves Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's "Kick me like a stray" and "Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man" And those two unmarked lines are "I'm a bad motherfucker, Tell yer (sic) sister I'm another" |
The 6ths – Give Me Back My Dreams Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is devastating. Beautiful. |
TV on the Radio – A Method Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I copied them straight out of the booklet. I doubt I could have come up with "mind field trip" on my own, to be honest. |
Rob Zombie – 17 Year Locust Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm pretty sure you were right the first time. The goat (Satan) sits on the left hand of God and the lamb (Jesus) sits on the right. Unless I've fogotten what I learned in Bible school all those years ago. |
Sugarcult – Hiatus Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Bon Jovi much? |
Murder by Death – Dead Men and Sinners Lyrics | 17 years ago |
From the site: "The third song is called "dead men and sinners" and is one of the more improvisational songs on the album. I had a melody in mind when I wrote the lyrics and we basically went into the studio and made up the rest. We banged on anything we could find for percussion, we made doors creak and bottles rustle to create the sound of a ship- there's even j Robbins dog doc barking in there somewhere. The idea is that this ship is wrecked and nine men escape to an island. (i sang in 9 different voices for this song to make it more authentic). Basically what happens is that the bohemoth of a captain is leading this doomed ship, and his crew decides to mutiny. They toss him into the ocean in the midst of a storm but then the nine traitors get into a storm and wreck upon a beach where they live out their last days waiting for death to come and take them." |
