Lady GaGa – Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The Cherrytree Sessions version (with the beatbox), while weird, seems to have a lot more heart than the one on The Fame. Like, I didn't even care for the song that much until I heard that. Makes it a lot more tolerable, even enjoyable. |
Lady GaGa – Brown Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Would not expect this to come out of Lady Gaga, that's for sure. Awesome song, though! |
Flight of the Conchords – Hotties Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh, wait a tic. Here we go: Cuba is one of the more prominent streets in Wellington, NZ. Sort of an artsy, bohemian-type place. Knowing that, and the fact that FOTC originated in Wellington, puts this into perspective. Certain other parts are just culturual references-- the only one that might be a little confusing is 'Looking as cool as a Fisher & Paykel'; Fisher & Paykel being a New Zealand-based appliance company. They're probably likening him to the coolness of a fridge, in that sense. |
The Lonely Island – Like a Boss Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I lol'd. |
The Lonely Island – Punch You in the Jeans Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The loop here is really... chill? that the word I'm looking for? Anyway, lyrics are clever too. It's just all-around awesome. Subtle, but awesome. |
Alien Ant Farm – Crickets Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I guess the parent idea makes sense, but there's something about the subtext here I can't shake.. "no one's here to see us I kinda like it (you too) no one's here to believe us and i don't want to share you" "We would just lay in that beat up car and laugh until we cried we took our shoes off and went a bit too far I've seen it in your eyes" Seems to me like he's talking about a girl/childhood friend he loved. They'd just mess around during the summer, but they didn't get to see each other that often-- and at some point they realized they were getting older and 'went a bit too far' emotionally. But it didn't work out. The chorus, I would say, brings this reminiscing full-circle: The creek they'd hang out at is gone now, and their relationship dried up with it. |
Flight of the Conchords – Hotties Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There's something really sensual and laid-back about this-- It's nice. I've got no idea what it's about, though. |
Frou Frou – Maddening Shroud Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is going to sound weird, but now whenever I hear Maddening Shroud all I can think of is the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I guess that's because I was listening to Frou Frou during that time, but the bridge really gets to me. He was kind of fed up with everything, right? |
Aerosmith – Jaded Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The meaning is kind of out already, but I'd just like to add -- How can so many people (assuming most of us grew up with the language) not know what the word 'jaded' means? Is it not in common use? |
Kara's Flowers – The Kid With The Velvet Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I've got no idea what this song is about or where to find it, but it's probably one of my favorite Maroon 5/Kara's Flowers songs. |
Flight of the Conchords – Not Crying Lyrics | 16 years ago |
God, this song is hilarious. Yet I can't stop listening to it.. I suppose it's just easy to relate to. Haven't we all made this excuse at one point or another? My favorite lyric: "I'm sitting at this table called love Staring down at the irony of life How come we’ve reached this fork in the road And yet it cuts like a knife?" Funny and bittersweet at the same time. |
Katy Perry – Ur So Gay Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Having only read the lyrics, I think a lot of people are missing the point here. "You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys" You don't even like boys. She's referring to posers and stupid scene kids with their tight jeans and emo hair; they only prove to further cement the stereotype. It's not about whether or not they're gay, it's about them trying to be something they aren't. Seriously, wtf at this being offensive. |
Jason Mraz – Only Human Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree with the green movement thing, but I was thinking about the song last night and the lines, "They've got a right to live their own life But we keep paving over paradise" Really stuck out to me. It made me think, overall, we say we don't care about other people or how they choose to do things yet we're constantly looking over what might make them happy. "I respect you, but not really, because I decide to screw over all your ideas." It's like saying one is a failure for being a dropout or a fool for not living up to expectations. You said you didn't care, but it looks like you did anyway. And for what? Obviously not the person you're demeaning -- "Only human" being the excuse we use to defend our own selfishness. They might be happy with their decision, but we could care less because it's not what -we- want to see; and as a result we effectively 'pave over their paradise'. Maybe the animals are metaphors for other people going about their lives? Eh, that's just my two cents. |
Candy Butchers – I Let Her Get Away Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's a story, kind of. "I set fire to her heart so I could find her in the dark But the sad part is she believed me" 'Lit a flame' for her, so he'd have someone to be with.. Lead a girl on, basically, he used her. Unfortunately, she didn't realize it. Next part of the story, she gave him her house keys. A sense of trust. Through a note he learns, apparently, that not only is he given the right to live and be with her, but that he's knocked her up in the process. She learns what he's been doing. An argument ensues, karmic payback, 'the past sprayed out like mace'. Fortunately, there was so much more to it than that. He's out of her life now, and she won't even care to listen to him outright anymore. She's always been a doormat and non-confrontational, it seems -- she was always letting him get away with everything -- but in the end, he took her for granted. He let -her- get away. |
Ray J – One Wish Lyrics | 16 years ago |
God that comment was a long time ago. Anyway, great song. I get a melancholy feeling from it. Obviously they both screwed up and he realizes just how much she means to him. |
Steve Burns – Stick Around Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Short, but sweet. Melancholic, too. |
Slipknot – Vermilion, Pt. 2 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I realize this is probably about his wife, but another way to interpret it: Say there are actually two guys in this song. First verse, a guy and a girl, he's only an object to her (they just have sex for the hell of it), but he wishes she only belonged to him - it's possible she has feelings for somebody else. It's an unrequited feeling. Second verse, another guy, maybe the one she cares about; Saying he basically loves her but can't be with her because she's too 'perfect'. He doesn't want to make her real, because it would shatter the illusion he made of her. Both guys don't know what to do, but they won't let the feelings grow into something uncontrollable. The bridge is talking about, again, not knowing what to say. Guy 1 doesn't want to only be her fuck buddy, and guy 2 doesn't want to keep giving her false hopes. So in the end, 'She isn't real' comes from the both of them. For the first one, she isn't real because she isn't giving herself fully to him, but he can't change that. For the second, she isn't real because his vision of her is a lie.. And he can't make her perfect. |
The Cardigans – Losers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Whoops.. Well, anyway, it seems like it's about not listening to trends and what's popular. The person being spoken to believes to be one of the 'cool' kids, and dislikes the 'losers', even though they secretly care about them. Inside, they yearn to -really- be cool, but they're in denial of the fact that they are not. So the chorus mentions that if they simply close their eyes and don't listen, they would realize the truth and get back to who they really are. It's not important to be 'cool', because in the end they're 'just like you'. |
The Cardigans – Losers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Favorite Cardigans song. |
The Cardigans – Losers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Favorite Cardigans song. |
Chrisette Michele – Be Ok Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Can't believe nobody's commented on this.. I personally love both the album and single/video version. Great song. |
Sara Bareilles – Love on the Rocks Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm with Museicalin; this song may very well be the best one on the album. |
Spacehog – Anonymous Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Man, /b/ is just what I came to post here. I didn't realize it till now but the song fits 'em perfectly, eh? They need to adopt this as their theme or something. Spacehog needs more recognition anyway. |
Samantha Mumba – Isn't It Strange Lyrics | 16 years ago |
How are there no comments on this? I think Isn't It Strange was my favorite off of the album. It just had this.. feel to it, along with Lately. |
Samantha Mumba – Baby Come Over Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I personally think this was a better single than Gotta Tell You, but. Eh. |
Sarah Blasko – Long Time Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh, wow. I didn't even notice The Woman By The Well had the same melody. What an observation! Ah, I've always liked this little hidden track. Nice way to end the album. |
My Epiphany – Body Talk Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love the line "And I guess / you accidentally fell into that dress". Maybe it's the delivery? I'm not sure. Bah, this song is always going to make me think of Autumn, though. I wonder how she's doing. |
Abandoned Pools – Lucky Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Anyway, this is my take: "It's not me Find someone who loves you And if not me Find someone who knows who you are" There's this girl who is completely taken by him. Though, he doesn't reciprocate, it's possible they're both strangers at the time. Maybe not even strangers - he just feels they don't know each other well enough. So he's telling her to find somebody else. "They're just memories They can get so mean Little sacred things Floating out to sea" "They're" might be everything she bases her love for him off of. Reasons, I guess. Though his reasoning is, "Oh, you just took them all the wrong way. You think they're really important, but look. There they go. Drifting away." "I once knew a girl She once knew me We had our own world My life was free" He's delving into his own past now.. this verse is self-explanatory, really. "I loved someone I set them free They haven't yet come back to me But if they do I'll surely be More lucky than anyone could be" Obviously it didn't work out with the girl he was remembering, but this is all recalling an old saying. "If you love something, set it free, if it comes back it's meant to be". Maybe it's a tad cynical.. "An empty house A sacrificial mouse A head full of lead Weighing all the things that she said" Maybe they lived together at one point. Weighing all the things that she said, maybe he didn't do that when he was supposed to, back before they broke up. "But I digress My tunnel vision Make me pay I know what I'm missing" Looking back, he regrets not listening when he should have. "So won't you please Find your way back to me My one and only Find your way back to me" Self-explanatory. "And if not me Find someone who loves you" Basically, "If I can't have you anymore, be with someone who will at least treat you right." It makes you wonder if the girl in the beginning of the song is the same one he lost. |
Abandoned Pools – Lucky Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Great song. Sad it's a bonus track though, I haven't been able to find it anywhere except a filesharing site online. |
Olivia Lufkin – Alone In Our Castle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Finally, the bridge, she's well aware she's in love with him but she won't outwardly show it if he won't reciprocate. Most of the time. It's really fitting for their latest situation, actually - he -does- reciprocate, but only for a moment. He has to leave her and pretend nothing happened, as does she, because they have reputations to upkeep (her as the 'singing princess' of their band and him as a respectable husband to the media). Anyway. Such a great song. |
Olivia Lufkin – Alone In Our Castle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Given that this was written after the manga series NANA began, I'm not saying this is written for it (though she did perform a lot for it), but it could fit very well with a situation. The relationship of two of it's characters - Layla and Takumi - the song is precisely about, in that context. He spent most of their lives building this 'castle', to protect her from the real world, and whenever she tried to build relationships outside of them he'd disapprove. Whether out of jealousy or concern, maybe both, she was effectively locked into a cage. The sparrow part may even talk about herself: "I kept my singing from you, which is the thing you cherish more than anything else." She knows she has to return, to recordings and things, because they're all part of the same band, but her broken heart keeps her. If she stays in the castle, or the band, she'll be near him, as a member and vocalist, but she'll never get what she truly wants: to be WITH him. Their castle prevents it. All she can do is sit and reflect on what they've gained - the fame and money - and his love, what she'll never obtain, alone in their castle. |
Olivia Lufkin – Alone In Our Castle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Love oh love I want to believe in love I want to believe this feeling That I feel deeply for you" Maybe their relationship with each other has been falling apart. And she, the singer, wants to keep it together. "But if you can't Turn away and go Don't turn back And I'll do the same " Kind of self-explanatory. If you don't want to, I guess I'll have to agree with that. Just walk away and deny everything. Repeat choruses. So, perhaps, the song is about two lovers falling apart. She finally found happiness, which she couldn't get, maybe because of the castle's protection, but he was against it. Regardless, she needed that little bit of risk, but he doesn't care. He leaves her there. She's forever in the walls of it, of these barriers. |
Olivia Lufkin – Alone In Our Castle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"So I kidnapped your sweet sparrow So I am dancing around on your pain" I took something precious of yours, and I'm spending my time enjoying how hurt you are. May not be the most moralistic thing to do, but this person obviously has problems with their counterpart. Of course, you can tell in their voice a part of them isn't really enjoying it. "The hallways echo your longing We both know what needs to be done But something is holding on" The other person wants what they lost back. The sparrow? The singer knows they should give it back. But a part of everything won't let her. "Alone in our castle Alone in everything we have I'll never feel your skin The way I do in our castle " Same as the last chorus. Though this seems to indicate, "You won't feel the same if you aren't here," as opposed to "I can't feel you again, because you're gone." So maybe they both mean that? If it isn't the castle, it isn't the same. They aren't the same person. |
Olivia Lufkin – Alone In Our Castle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well, let's attempt to find the meaning of this. "So the siren went off It chased you out of your mind" -- I'm thinking something big happened. Some guy had a red alert for something set in the back of his mind, and it (more or less) 'went off'. The chasing part seems to indicate some struggle. You don't have to chase something unless it's getting away from you. So, he's trying to run from whatever caused the 'siren', and it catches up. Drives him crazy. "Just when I started to grow a garden" -- I see people using gardens as metaphors for feelings or relationships. Maybe this is like, "Just when I started to find friends/love". "How selfish of me But I need something to build on to You can't leave me here" -- The selfish part could be sarcastic. If her making a new relationship startled the guy so much as to put off a 'siren' in his head, then she's saying, "Oh, sorry for hurting you back there when I was just trying to be happy." "But I need something to build on to" - She's explaining her reasoning. If she doesn't get that love out of her 'garden', what else can she do? The guy is coming and going, she can't just be by herself. Thus, the metaphorical castle comes in. "Alone in our castle Alone in everything we have I'll never see your face The way it is in our castle " A stronghold, a place he built perhaps for her - he's gone and she's just sitting there with all their belongings. The chorus can be taken two ways. Particularly the lines, "I'll never see your face / the way it is / in our castle." It could mean, "I won't see you the same way if I'm outside/no longer protected", or "I won't see you again, because of this castle (because that's the 'way it is'." |
Gwen Stefani – Serious Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Very 80's. |
The Cardigans – Daddy's Car Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This has got to be my favorite song by them. Not really for the innocence factor, but just because it's so.. laid back and catchy. It even feels a little romantic, by the way she sings it. |
Imogen Heap – Oh Me, Oh My Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh, my favorite part of the song is probably the lines "And the night has no compassion for your actions / When you're trying to get away". Just really strikes a chord with me, especially how she says it. |
Imogen Heap – Oh Me, Oh My Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Story of my life as of right now.. I think this is one of my favorite songs by Immy. |
Kay Hanley – Chady Saves The Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |
One of her best songs, IMO. If I ever have a boy, I think I'm naming him Chady.. sounds much better than Chad, |
Kay Hanley – Brown Betty Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I know Ugly Betty wasn't out at the time she wrote this, but I swear the song could fit with the series. >_> |
Janet Jackson – If Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I like the chorus and every verse before the chorus.. the song could've been much more than raw lust, though. >_> Or, well, I dunno, better written. Smooth and shiny? Jesus, Janet. |
Candy Butchers – Kiss Alive II Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Erm.. as for the song. Since it's mentioning Todd, who I can only assume is Todd Foulsham, the drummer who founded the group with Mike Viola - the song must be about his leave from the group somewhere in the 90's. He did, however, come back with him to perform on Hang On Mike, and Kiss Alive II is on the album, so it's talking about their pasts and reminiscing about the old days: They were just two kids dreaming of making it big, and in the end, in their perspective, they did. Bennie and the Jets is a single by Elton John, and (Kiss) Alive II is a live album by Kiss. I'm not entirely sure what the meaning behind them is- It obviously has something to do with different tastes, though. I don't think you'd expect a Kiss fan to also be an Elton John fan, or vice-versa. So, despite their musical differences, they "stayed friends after all". The only part about the song I feel isn't exactly self-explanatory is the third verse. "You've got a little girl to show / who the world belongs to / and I'm so proud of you now" - Does Todd have a daughter? Perhaps a girlfriend? Lack of info on the band itself is frustrating... |
Candy Butchers – Kiss Alive II Lyrics | 16 years ago |
After watching BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, this song reminds me a lot of the series. |
Letters to Cleo – Because Of You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I can stand here and do this again I can say it, but where to begin? I know that I'm caving in Because I'm heavy I'm heavy So the wonder of you is done I'm tired, and bloody, and good to be gone I know that you did me wrong 'Cause I'm ready I'm ready As for the part about having something more Let's not pretend that it's like it was before And I wish I could say that it's not because of you But it's because of you I've a dark and snowy remembrance of this But remind me again of what I'm gonna miss When all you do is let me down You'd better tell me something and tell it to me now As for the part about having something more Let's not pretend it's like it was before And I wish I could say that it's not because of you But it's because of you And are you sorry? As for the part about having something more Let's not pretend that it's like it was before I wish I could say that it's not because of you But it's all because of you And it's all because of you And light went black And I got scared -- This will be easier. |
Letters to Cleo – I'm A Fool Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Unfortunately, since I first heard Kay Hanley's vocals in Team Rose's theme song for Sonic Heroes (coincidentally my least favorite Sonic game), all I can imagine is Amy singing this. It's oddly fitting. >_> I do love her voice, though. This is a good song. |
Barenaked Ladies – Maybe You're Right Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Gah, I just had a huge disagreement with some friends and I think it's led to the ending of a friendship. Then, this song comes on and it's meaning seems clear -- I take the song as, well, now.. The first verse: A guy talking of his friends and some kind of topic that came up a lot. It always ended up in arguments and petty feelings, but 'nothing was ever done about it'. So the guy, somewhat sarcastically, asks if everything would be better if they'd just shut up about it. Second verse talks about the problem of the fighting in question, and the friends tried to convince themselves nothing was wrong. Still, nothing was done to stop it. The chorus.. "All my mistrust - we never discussed anyone's reservations", meaning the friends wanted others to understand where they were coming from but that didn't happen. The narrator is again wondering if all would be solved if these things were never brought up. The bridge mentions "there was a time when a crime was a crime" - sometimes his opinions of the matter were probably viewed as wrong, but he can't take it anymore. Everyone is blowing the topic up when it's nothing, but it can't be seen as nothing because for some reason it isn't that easy. That brings us to the end - Maybe they're right, but he still denies it. He's probably no better than his friends, but that's the way it goes. Ugh, this speaks to me so much right now. I always liked Maybe You're Right before, but I didn't fully realize the meaning til now. |
Maroon 5 – Ragdoll Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Story of the last three years of my life. >_> Probably my favorite song off of Songs About Jane. I like all their bonus tracks on overseas releases, though. Ragdoll, Infatuation. |

Oh, the guy in the song is Prince? How did I not notice that? o_O Hm. The lyrics do sound a lot like his other stuff. Anyway, great song. |
