Crickets Lyrics

Dog day afternoon
I can see your face
I know youll get here soon
and we leave this place

I would just lay in the mustard sea
and watch you climb the trees
look for fools gold in the scary creek
splashing cold and hear you scream

no ones here to see us
I kinda like it (you too)
no ones here to believe us
and i dont want to share you

years gone bye and this creeks all dry
funny little things never work out
years gone bye and this creeks all dry
funny little things never work out

Mondays came too soon
and you went away
Lord knows I think of You
Every single day

We would just lay in that beat up car
and laugh until we cried
we took our shoes off and went a bit too far
I've seen it in your eyes

no ones here to see us
I kinda like it (you too)
no ones here to believe us
and I dont want to share you

years gone bye and this creeks all dry
funny little things never work out
years gone bye and this creeks all dry
funny little things never work out

No ones here to see us
I kinda like it (you too)
No ones here to belive us
and I dont want to share you

years gone bye and this creeks all dry
funny little things never work out
years gone bye and this creeks all dry
funny little things never work out
years gone bye and this creeks all dry
funny little things never work out
years gone bye and this creeks all dry

I heard this new album was awful...Pretty good so far. Especially this song.

I think this is about a parent spending time with their child who they only have joint custody of. "Mondays came too soon" meaning the child has to return to their other parent during the week. But the story is being told mostly in the past tense, i'd say that they are regretting not getting as much time with their child when they were growing up

I guess the parent idea makes sense, but there's something about the subtext here I can't shake..

"no one's here to see us I kinda like it (you too) no one's here to believe us and i don't want to share you"

"We would just lay in that beat up car and laugh until we cried we took our shoes off and went a bit too far I've seen it in your eyes"

Seems to me like he's talking about a girl/childhood friend he loved. They'd just mess around during the summer, but they didn't get to see each other that often-- and at some point they realized they were getting older and 'went a bit too far' emotionally. But it didn't work out. The chorus, I would say, brings this reminiscing full-circle: The creek they'd hang out at is gone now, and their relationship dried up with it.
