The Falcon – Building the Perfect Asshole Parade -or- Scratching off the Fleas Lyrics | 16 years ago |
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO |
Bomb the Music Industry! – Pike St - Park Slope Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Anybody who hasn't checked out Harvey Danger yet, you really need to. They're so much better than their "90s alt rock one hit wonder" reputation might have you believe. King James Version is one hell of a good album. |
Brand New – Accident Prone (Jawbreaker cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Jawbreaker is the best band ever. Never heard this version though. |
Tiger Army – Forever Fades Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Don't let this song scare you - the album has a lot of good psychobilly stuff on it. There's not really much that sounds like this. |
Rancid – Another Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's from their first self-titled album. It's the one with the gun on the cover. |
The Broadways – Dropjaw Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Quite possibly my favorite song ever written. It's just so amazing. |
Rx Bandits – Prophetic Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I just heard this song for the first time and I am blown the fuck away. |
Bad Religion – Atheist Peace Lyrics | 17 years ago |
AmoebaCheeba, I have one word for you: oil. |
The Broadways – It Was Pancho Villa Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Does anyone know what book that quotation is from? I've been trying to find it for a long time and I've had no luck at all. |
AFI – Crop Tub Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think it's about a girl necessarily. I think it's about someone who claimed to be straight edge, but was doing drugs in secret. |
AFI – Charles Atlas Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is pretty ironic now that AFI has completely turned its back on the punk scene. |
Strike Anywhere – Timebomb Generation Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Possibly my favorite song of all time. I have "in defiance of empty times" written across the back of my jacket. |
Dag Nasty – Values Here Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is one of the best punk songs of all time. |
Blink-182 – T.V. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Listen to "TV Song" by The Broadways. |
Dwarves – Everybody's Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Eeeeew, you're creepy! |
The Broadways – Upton Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is such a fucking amazing song... the last two lines are some of the most astute lyrics ever written. |
Good Riddance – Made To Be Broken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
My favorite Good Riddance song! |
Chixdiggit – My Restaurant Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"tires of her jeep," not "top of her jeans!" What an awesome mistake! I almost prefer that lyric! |
Screeching Weasel – I beilieve in UFOs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Definitely. |
Screeching Weasel – American Suicide Lyrics | 17 years ago |
These are definitely not the right lyrics. I can't make out what they actually are, but this isn't even close. |
Screeching Weasel – I Hate Led Zeppelin Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's pretty cool that around the time Screeching Weasel stopped writing songs that sounded like this, Guttermouth started sounding exactly like this. They're better at it anyway, in my opinion. SW is better at the more melodic stuff. |
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes – San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love the way the intro is the same as Bad Religion's "Stranger Than Fiction." |
Lagwagon – Dividers Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A call to view people by who they are and not where they're from. |
Dropkick Murphys – Black Velvet Band Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Here's the real lyrics: In a neat little town they call Brockton Apprenticed to trade I was bound And many an hour's sweet happiness I spent in that neat little town Then bad misfortune befell me That caused me to stray from the land Far away from my friends and companions To follow the black velvet band As I was out strolling one evening Not intending to stay very long I met with a frolicsome damsel As she came trippin' along A watch, she pulled out her pocket And slipped it right into my hand On the very first night that I met her Bad luck to the black velvet band Her eyes they shone like the diamonds You'd think she was queen of the land And her hair hung over her shoulder Tied up in a black velvet band Before judge and jury next morning Both of us did appear A gentleman claimed his jury And the case against us was clear Now seven long years transportation Right down to Van Dieman's land Far away from my friends and companions To follow the black velvet band Her eyes they shone like the diamonds You'd think she was queen of the land And her hair hung over her shoulder Tied up in a black velvet band So come all you jolly young fellows I'd have you take warning by me Whenever you're out on the liquor Beware of the pretty Colleen She'll fill you with whiskey and porter Until you're not able to stand And the very next thing that you'd know You've landed in Van Dieman's land Her eyes they shone like the diamonds You'd think she was queen of the land And her hair hung over her shoulder Tied up with a black velvet band |
AFI – No Poetic Device Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Reality is a lucid dream. |
AFI – The Prayer Position Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I've been trying to figure this one out for a while. Here's my interpretations. I'm doing the line-by-line thing, so bear with me. "Now! Peel the skin back from the flesh. Steal the flesh back from the starving static minds. From nature we must stray, to clarity we'll climb. Deadly impulse seems so natural, just look beyond it and we'll find a brand new evolution." Humans seem to have a natural tendency to follow what other humans do and believe what other humans believe. It's an impulse that can be overcome, but it's not an easy thing to do. Most people never even begin to think outside of their own viewpoints. But not enough of us can overcome the things that have been instilled in us and truly think for ourselves can we become a better civilization. "Pushed to our knees so let us pray, and all together we'll bring the real rain. Watch all that's wasted wash away, so let it come. Our will be done." The chorus is talking about the people responsible for the numbing of mankind's collective brain - organized religion. As many have pointed out before me, the narrator is "pushed" to his knees, forced into believing and behaving a certain way. And when a society becomes so narrow-minded, they can never progress and are doomed to destruction. (The new rain.) All the potential will be wasted and eventually forgotten because of mankind's closed-minded ways of thinking. "I can't help but fear, look to my species and tremble, to think that God is just..." It's interesting that he is revoking organized religion, but not denying the existance of a god. This is a cool little reference to the famous Thomas Jefferson quote and it's also an indictment of the horrible atrocities that have been carried out in god's name. It's implying that if god is just and impartial, we're all basically fucked. |
AFI – Exsanguination Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think Seashore nailed it. |
AFI – Porphyria Cutanea Tarda Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A lot of the Black Sails album is about being rejected by society and finding your place with other misfits. I've always seen this song as a continuation of "Strength Through Wounding," since both of them have recurring themes of darkness, light, and unity. |
Misfits – Teenagers From Mars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Punk is only dead because punks insist on saying it is. If you don't want punk to die, don't just sit around complaining about it - go create something. Anyway, Buck-O-Nine's cover of this song is pretty fucking cool, but nothing beats the Misfits. |
Good Riddance – Not With Him Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Oh yeah, and the song he's singing about is "Clean Sheets" by the Descendents. One of my favorite songs of all time. |
Good Riddance – Not With Him Lyrics | 17 years ago |
They got harder and more political, but I don't think they suck now. Actually, the new album has quite a few songs like this. |
Good Riddance – Jeannie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love how the album goes from really hard and fast to poppy and slow with this song. Good Riddance can do anything. |
Good Riddance – Sacrifice Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I might. |
Useless ID – No Time For Me To Be A Teenager Lyrics | 17 years ago |
They do. Listen to "State of Fear" |
Angry Samoans – They Saved Hitler's Cock Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It would ask for Sharon Tate, not to share a date. Beautiful song. |
Less Than Jake – Jay Frenzal Lyrics | 17 years ago |
If you listen really closely to the "here comes your bus driver" line, it's the guy from Frenzal Rhomb singing it. So I'm guessing they're all still friends. |
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes – What I Did For Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's on their album "Are A Drag," Excellent album, you should check it out! |
Strung Out – Unkoil Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Agreed. Great song. |
Lagwagon – Razor Burn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Way better. |
Nerf Herder – Defending The Faith Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The 4th verse is actually: We come from Albany Anchorage, and Milwaukee Toledo and Bowling Green All with the same dream |
The Adolescents – Amoeba Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is about a lot more than just an amoeba. It's an allegory. Think of the scientists as being elitist conformists and listen to it again. |
Ramones – Makin' Monsters for My Friends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I wish Joey sang this song. |
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – Sugar Free Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about the way society puts priority on things that shouldn't and don't matter that much. |
Swingin' Utters – No Time To Play Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's about how you're forced to give up immaturity and fun so you can grow up and conform. |
Whatever It Takes – Cold Of Winter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is just plain amazing. Some of the most personal and moving lyrics I've ever heard. Chris is an inspiration. |
AFI – Half-Empty Bottle Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, GB was definitely an early influence on AFI, especially on the first two albums. |
The Pogues – And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song never fails to reduce me to a blubbering mess of tears. Damn you, Pogues... |
The Pogues – I'm A Man You Don't Meet Every Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The lyrics of this song confuse the hell out of me. But goddamn, those vocals are gorgeous. I could listen to them all day... |
Rancid – Back Up Against The Wall Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Hey oldschoolpunker - good luck, man... you posted that 9 months ago, here's hoping everything's turned around for you by now... rock the fuck on, dude. Punk for life. |
Rise Against – Broken English Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Rise Against definitely has a lot of emo influence in their music. It's not necessarily an insult. Real emo music is actually very good. The shit that gets played on the radio today isn't emo at all. It's shitty pop-rock. Real emo is Jawbreaker, Dag Nasty, Rites Of Spring, and Orchird. Listen to those bands and you'll see how Rise Against was definitely influenced by them. |
