the guy who talked about Rob hitch hiking is right, i bought a copy f a storytellers cd off ebay and he talks about this song as being pretty literal. they had a brief fling and she was giving him a lift somewhere then just said "you know, theres not enough going on with you, ive had enough" kinda thing

Queen – Radio Ga Ga Lyrics 16 years ago
the song makes me think about how music is as much about image as the music itself "we hardly need to use our ears, how music changes through the years"
'music' becomes the visual as much as the audio cos of the image conscious pretty pop stars and fickle public who bow down to the latest craze and call it talent.

Radio played music, TV plays adverts for bubblegum pop groups who sell their image to hormone ridden teenagers

The Pogues – The Old Main Drag Lyrics 17 years ago
anyway, i'm pretty sure a swift one off the wrist refers to a hand job from a hooker
-------------------------------------
its not from a hooker, he is the hooker. its about him being a rent boy, hence

"And they ruined my good looks for the old main drag"

whats with the verse chorus labels?

its just a song, just verses, no pointless repetition of choruses, just a well written song that carries on from where it left off instead of coming back to one point

I just can't put words into any kind of organization that would do this song enough credit

how about a little bit of context???

i think you look at it the wrong way, this is one of the few songs that does the organisations credit

Dropkick Murphys – Heroes from Our Past Lyrics 18 years ago
Seams a lot less about IRA romanticism than it does about workers and labor struggles

Be it raids and melees ancient OR the modern worker's struggle that inspires men to stand up for their rights

seems to be about both to me, although not necessarily IRA romanticism

Dropkick Murphys – The Wild Rover Lyrics 18 years ago
i thought a rover was a traveller, not particularly a drunk

hence...

and now I'm returning with gold in great store and I never will play the wild rover no more

and

went home to my parents, confessed what I'd done and I asked them to pardon their prodigal son

the main thing the beatles had over evry1 else was timing. if they wer introduced now with their bubbly pop songs that got them famous in the 1st place, theyd b another conveyor belt boy band. they only started writing good lyrics wen they started takin drugs

Barenaked Ladies – When I Fall Lyrics 18 years ago
I look in the boardroom; a modern pharaoh's tomb

this ties in with 'gravity defiants' comment about traditional career choices. the boardroom is like a place where the business mans life is pretty much over anyway because its not exactly following the heart and all the riches that come with this career choice are just taken through to the next life anyway as the lifestyle itself can restrict the pleasure gained from it

they arent so much underestimated than seen as soft, just cos they write a few love songs, i kno ppl who dont see them as a rock band but a band for girls, i totally disagree and 2 the legions of loyal fans, thers no doubt at all about their quality.

Bon Jovi – Always Lyrics 18 years ago
it's been raining since you left me
now I'm drowning in the flood

now you're pictures that you left behind
are just memories of a different life
some that made us laugh, some that made us cry
one that made you have to say goodbye

if it was written from a stalkers point of view he didnt do a very good job. these lyrics suggest they wer together. strange that he tries 2 write it from a stalkers point of view but wrote an amazin love song

Barenaked Ladies – Jane Lyrics 18 years ago
i think pixies description sounds the best, and just to point out, nobody actually sed the song was ABOUT the street corner, just that its a 'reference' or 'name source' in the noted for this song on Disc One it says

"Upon looking at a map of Toronto, my friend Stephen Duffy remarked that the intersection of Jane ST and St Clair Avenue sounded like the most beautiful corner in the world. It's not, but we decided to write a song using it anyway"

"We grouped excuses
Not to be alone anymore"

isnt it "we groped for excuses"

i think its about him and a girl basically using each other 2 explore sex for the 1st time, not necessarily full sex but just being naively curious.

"we were looking for ourselves
but found each other"

maybe the 'experimenting' led to a genuine interest as a person? but for some reason they couldnt do anything about it

the version on Rock Spectacle is amazing, so atmospheric. i like 2 c this song as about the expectations on ppl from bein a kid cos i relate to that view of it the most.

"I go to school, I write exams
If I pass, if I fail, if I drop out, does anyone give a damn?
And if they do, they'll soon forget
'Cause it won't take much for me to show that my life ain't
over yet"

as tho academic success is all that matters instead of actually livin life

its called pride in direct heritage and being influenced by different types of music. instead of writin 'just unk' songs or 'just folk' songs. they make different music which people like, y duz the song need a deeper meaning? not all songs have to be deep n meaningful. how about a bit of fun?if u dont like the band, dont listen to it n dont comment on the song just 2 slag it off. its pointless n clogs up space wher people can post somethin creative for people who are interested

nothin 2 do with the meaning of the song but i was at the Nou Camp wen an Utd won the European Cup in 99 n this song was played, all the players wer sat at the edge of the pitch and swayed along with the crowd 2 this song, even tho the meanin of the song probly duznt fit the context it was such a powerful feeling in the celebrations. the only connection i can think of is that James r a manchester band but for some reason it just seemed 2 fit the occasion somehow

Dropkick Murphys – Fields of Athenry Lyrics 18 years ago
charlies, yes the IRA r scum, but the original reason for their existence isnt. ppl arent justifying recent IRA attacks but the original reasons they fought. they started out as an organisation 2 fight against opression, generations of hatred bred ppl who werent fighting for their freedom anymore but fighting out of pure hatred, thats y todays IRA is very different from the original organisation. Michael in the song is just trying 2 feed his family, but he needs 2 'rebel' against the British 2 do this, hence the lines 'against the famine and the crown, i rebel they cut/run me down'

SpringE, Nazis r generally skinheads but skinheads arent necessarily nazis. A skinhead is generally associated with punk, DKM are punk and sing irish songs so this contradicts the generalisation of ALL skinheads being racist

Jet – Rollover D.J. Lyrics 19 years ago
After all these years of great music, it's almost impossible for a band to release music that is totally new to everyone. Every new band gets compared to previous bands. There's too much music out there for anyone to be totally original.

To me, Jet sound good, so i'll listen to them. Any band that can come out without being compared to somebody before them needs to have a comic book written about them cos they must be super heroes.

If it sounds good, listen to it, if u like the lyrics, listen to it, if u like the music, listen to it. Why worry that they played the same 4 notes in a row that someone else played 5 years ago, eventually all the riffs are gonna be used up anyway so wot do u expect then? evry1 to stop realeasing music in case they sound similar to another band who wer around 5 or 10 years b4?

Matchbox Twenty – Kody Lyrics 19 years ago
this song reminds me of my foster brother, he was severely disabled and it was never as obvious what he meant to me until he died.

We fostered him from being 4 up2 him passing away at 18, he was only 4 months older than me so there was a connection in the feeling that he shouldve been doing the things that i was doing.

My relationship was a lot like Rob's to the child because although he lived with us, his condition made it impossible to really know him.

It seems really quiet now he's gone and the 'squeak hinge' line is my connection to the song.

I love the chorus, there is so much feeling, as in the rest of the song and most MB20 songs. Great lyrics, great feeling, the reasons i love MB20

wow surfpico, i was 100 miles away wen i went 2 uni n i was lonely. i felt the person who was leaving in this song and just wanted someone to say to me the 2nd part of the chorus

'Maybe, maybe, maybe
You'll find something
That's enough to please you
But if the bright lights don't receive you
You can turn yourself around
And come on home'

ther are so many MB20 songs i relate to and love the lyrics.
A major one is Unwell, check it out if u aint heard it.
