Rollover D.J. Lyrics

Got your rhymes going round in my head
Got your supersonic beats mixing up my Keds
So dance little D.J. come on
What's your name?

I wanna move but it don't feel right
Cause you've been playing other people's songs all night
So tell what you're trying to say
What's your name?

Hey, rollover D.J.
You're spinning away
On my time
Hey, who cares what you play
Say whatever you say, I don't mind
Hey, roll over D.J., if you don't mind

Well I know that you think you're a star
A pill poppin' jukebox is all that you are
So tell me it ain't that way
What's you're name?

Hey, rollover D.J.
You're spinning away
On my time
Hey, who cares what you play
Say whatever you say, cause I don't mind
Hey roll over D.J., if you don't mind

Hey, rollover D.J.
You're spinning away
On my time
Hey, who cares what you play
Say whatever you say, cause I don't mind
Hey, roll over D.J., if you don't mind
Hey, roll over D.J., if you don't mind
Hey, roll over D.J., if you don't mind

When I first heard this song I thought it was nothing special musically, although I'm starting to get into it now. Everyone probably knows this, but the song Rollover Beethoven was about how rock was going to become the dominant form of music way back in the 50s(?). Anyway, I see Rollover DJ as being a similar song lyrically and I've got to say IT'S ABOUT TIME. I can't stand rap/dance/pop, whatever they want to call it, it's all the same to me and IT SUCKS. I like Rollover DJ just for the message it sends:

Rock will always be the supreme form of music and if you don't like it, then you can shove your dance CDs up your arse.

This song always sounds like "Taking Care of Business" to me. Still love it though. I find it kinda ironic when DJs play it too.

perhaps the American version is different, but mine says "uptight copyright" instead of "pill-popping jukebox."

Yep, the American version (or radio/album version) is different if that's what it says. The Australian single definitely says "pill-popping jukebox."

ha, first i think it is talking about spinning DJs, not radio ones. Secondly i find this song hilarious coming from this band. A band with no identity who just steals music and sounds of other bands and slightly rearrange it and call it their own. At least DJs give credit to the authors and title their works as remixes.

I'd rather listen to a band play someone else's song that actually sounds good than someone who remixes something that sucked anyway to make it sound even worse.

All those people who don't like Jet because they sound like other bands should think this through, now this only applies if you liked the bands they sound like. Those bands are old and not many people care anymore and the old rock sound was dying. Jet came along and revived it and if anything spread it to new crowds, such as me who has never heard of any of the bands you are talking about. So think of it as revival, not as stealing.

I agree with dhelm, it's fucking rediculous that these guys are mocking DJs for playing other people's music, this from a band whose breakthrough single is practically an uncreditted Iggy Pop cover.
