Tool – Disposition Lyrics 7 years ago
It can mean many things to many people.

This one is personal to me. "Watch the weather change" to me represents observing something change as time goes on. "Mention this to me," can relate to the confusion associated with change. For instance, the weather changing can mean something good coming to an end...like a relationship fading, as time goes on with darker seasons. The person going through any change that is scary, confusing, part of the unknown- wants answers, but is kept in the dark, only left to watch the weather change.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Snow (Hey Oh) Lyrics 7 years ago
This is a great song. To me, it's about addiction (not just substance use, but any) or vices. It's about the recovery process.

"Come to decide that the things that I tried
Were in my life just to get high on"

-Self-explanatory, at least to me, when one realizes the nature of their addictive personality and that their vices (sex, drugs, etc) have taken over that person's life.

When I sit alone
Come get a little known
But I need more than myself this time

-Admitting that the substance or addiction has power over them. Needing a support system, maybe a higher power, admitting not knowing where to start.

Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe that we rely on

-About dependency. The things "we rely on" to make it through life's challenges.

When will I know that I really can't go
To the well once more time to decide on?

-The well representing the addiction. I think it's about coming to terms with the fact you can't keep going back to that well.

When it's killing me
When will I really see
All that I need to look inside

-When the addiction is killing that person, he/she hopes they can get to a point they can look inside and find some answers within his/her self to make it through.

Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow

-Snow is the addiction. It covers life's challenges and a person's problems beneath that snow. It's the illusion of something so perfect: the answer to everything, but it's just a band-aid, a cover up.

Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go

-The contrast between the escape vs. reality.

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
And it's so white as snow

Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go

-The tracks symbolize the problems, maybe depression, the baggage that is masked by the snow.....but it's not the answer. The problems that run so deep will catch up to you.

Take it or leave it, as far as my interpretation goes. This is a great song that means a lot to me and has helped give me inspiration.

Shadows Fall – Stepping Outside The Circle Lyrics 7 years ago
I also think it's about commitment, but my interpretation is that it's not about moving onto other men/women due to fear to commit. I think in reaction to fear of intimacy, the vocalist has a wall up and perhaps isolates, stays to himself. Either way, what he fears the most is getting hurt (and also being afraid to hurt the person he's involved with). He's probably been scarred from being hurt in the past and is afraid to trust again.

Maybe the person he is now in a relationship with hurt him before, or it can be someone else. I also think he is afraid of hurting the other person, knowing that he will drag someone else down with him.

It's a cycle for him to avoid giving himself fully to someone else. He does not take his chances since he does not want to risk having to deal with more pain and possible rejection. Another spin on it is that he has walls up as a result of him dealing with depression.

He is questioning his ability to sustain a relationship and feels that he would burden someone else if he were to let a person into his world, which is full of pain. He knows his emotional baggage would affect any relationship, so he does not feel he cannot get too close to someone. He remains isolated and trapped in his own vicious cycle of never sustaining a meaningful, lasting relationship. It eventually deteriorates, because he cannot trust others (or himself).

The Offspring – She's Got Issues Lyrics 7 years ago
Ha! This song makes me feel better after getting out of a relationship where the guy I dated was getting more and more psycho because of all this baggage. It wasn't as extreme as him calling his ex's name in bed....but so much of these lyrics are spot on when it comes to the situation. His whole life was a chore. He let others drag him down constantly and couldn't stop obsessing over his crazy ex. I did end up paying (financially and emotionally) when it all ended since I put up with his shit. Well, I feel relieved now that it's all over. This song is a nice release after listening to it.

Alicia Keys – A Woman's Worth Lyrics 7 years ago
This song to me is about those of us ladies who will give our all to someone who appreciates our efforts and commitment. It's about not taking a good woman in your life for granted, or she may not be able to hang on for too long....or she'll be completely dissatisfied and pushed aside. This is something I wish I'd have my new man listen to. He has a lot of shit going on in his life, and I cut him slack and try to be understanding. That being said, sometimes the relationship becomes "about him," and I hope he does not take for granted my efforts to be nurturing and gives me that in return.

Tool – H. Lyrics 7 years ago
Of course, there is Maynard's meaning. However, songs mean different things to different people and move us each in a unique ways. I believe it could very well be about heroin addiction, but I think it can also be about co-dependency in relationships.

Like when someone is so attached to someone since they feel such emptiness, but they become very distressed when they sense distance (i.e. I am too connected to you to slip away fade away). I think the beginning part about temptation is when someone is tempted into a relationship that may be toxic, but they proceed anyway, becoming addicted to the person who fills a void for them. They try to keep their feelings in check (hence, "Days away I still feel you touching me, changing me. Considerately killing me"). The person knows they are in over their head and that their emotions are being controlled by their attachment to someone. It is killing them, but they choose to bear with the pain. They are empty, and afraid; not knowing what else to do, so they hold on, and the cycle continues.

Rihanna – Stay Lyrics 8 years ago
"All along it was a fever
A cold sweat, hot headed believer
I threw my hands in the air I said show me something
He said, if you dare come a little closer"

-She is reflecting on the intensity of their relationship from the beginning, in my opinion. However, there are some strains on their relationship that make it difficult, perhaps his past (or present baggage) is preventing him from being able to move forward and give her what she needs. She throws her hands in the air, hoping he'll give her more. When she finally expresses this to him, he says it's okay to get closer to him. The reason he says "if you dare," is because he knows he has a lot of baggage he must deal with and that it would likely affect her at this time.

"Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now tell me, now tell me, now tell me now you know"

-His personal stuff is making the relationship not getting any better. Again, it puts a strain on the whole thing, where they must work hard for it to work out. Hence, "round and around we go." The "now tell me now you know," is her needing open communication to know what's going on with hope that he'll be more emotionally available to her as time goes on.

"Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay"

She knows the relationship is a struggle, difficult for her to deal with emotionally, and maybe the odds are against them. They may not be able to even spend much time together given certain circumstances. However, there's just something about him she can't put a finger on that makes her stay. When she is able to be with him and things are good, he makes her so happy and fulfilled to the point where she needs him and does not want him to leave.

"It's not much of a life you're living
It's not just something you take, it's given
Round and around, and around, and around we go
Oh now tell me, now tell me, now tell me, now you know"

He notices that his difficulties being emotionally available to her is taking a toll on her own wellbeing. "It's not something you take, it's given," would imply that he knows she deserves more, but he's only capable of giving so much in the relationship at this time. He's aware of how there isn't much he can do at this time to make things easier, so they go round and around.

"Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay"

In spite of their struggles, there's that something-about-her quality where he does not want to let go of her either. She truly makes him feel very happy when they do spend time together and gives his chaotic life some peace.

"Oh the reason I hold on
Oh 'cause I need this hole gone
Funny you're the broken one but I'm the only one who needed saving
'Cause when you never see the light, it's hard to know which one of us is caving"

She holds on, because from the very beginning, there was something missing from her life. Maybe she suffered a tremendous loss, and he's filled that hole for her. He all along was broken and entered the relationship looking for solace, but he ended up filling a void that was inside of her ("saving" her). However, they both don't know where the relationship is going. They can't really see the light.

Beautiful song with different meanings to different people. It sums up how I feel lately when it comes to a relationship.

Tonic – If You Could Only See Lyrics 8 years ago
It makes a lot of sense that this would be written for a parent. That was my interpretation of the lyrics from the second I read them.....the song resonates with me, having been in a situation where my parents are not crazy about me being in a relationship with someone. We live in a world where people easily judge relationships from the outside, saying, "Oh, that person is too old for you, not the right religion, race, gender, etc." The person in the song is defending his relationship (i.e. 'you got to take a little dirt to keep what you love'). If others truly knew how happy the woman makes him and took time to look past their judgments, they would understand.

Rihanna – Stay Lyrics 8 years ago
This song speaks to me and what I am going through right now. My interpretation:

All along it was a fever
A cold sweat, hot headed believer
-Their connection was a very intense, passionate one from the beginning

I threw my hands in the air I said show me something
He said, if you dare come a little closer
-Both are afraid of getting hurt. She throws her hands in the air, hoping he will show her that he is ready to let her in more than he has. She is afraid of him rejecting her based on how their own emotional baggage affects their ability to give themselves to each other fully. He shows her signs of encouragement: to get a little closer. Still, they are both guarded.

Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now tell me, now tell me, now tell me now you know
-It seems their own personal pain that they have been carrying around takes a toll on their ability to take their relationship to the next level. It complicates things, and they are going around in circles. She wants to know how he feels about the direction they are going in, and in general, she is confused.

Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay

-Through the confusion, she cannot simply let go of the connection she has with him. It is a special one, and she is hoping they can work through their own personal pain in the hopes that they can continue to be with each other, It's just "something about him," and she will try whatever she can to keep him in her life.

It's not much of a life you're living
It's not just something you take, it's given
Round and around, and around, and around we go
Oh now tell me, now tell me, now tell me, now you know

-He points out that it must be hard for her to deal with his baggage; making it not very fulfilling for her to plan her life around him. He points out that love goes both ways and acknowledges that perhaps on her end, she has been giving more than he does. However, he is not really capable at this time of providing her with any more. This perpetuates the cycle of going around in circles.

Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay

-He does not want to let go of her, and she has a special place in his heart, in spite of him not being able to give himself completely to her at this time.

Oh the reason I hold on
Oh 'cause I need this hole gone
Funny you're the broken one but I'm the only one who needed saving
'Cause when you never see the light, it's hard to know which one of us is caving

-He has been filling an emotional void for her, and this is why she is holding on. This indicates she is suffering from emotional dependency issues, routed in past pain. He fulfills her needs, and she does not want to give it up. He always claimed to be the "broken one," perhaps the one that would lean on her for emotional support in the relationship. However, she's letting him know that he actually came along at a dark time in her life where he healed her in a lot of ways...and that she's not just "the strong one" in the relationship.

Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay, stay
I want you to stay, oh

-Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics. Two lovers who found each other at a time where they needed each other the most. This is a blessing and a curse: they fulfill each others' needs, but they have a lot of healing to do independently and suffer from trust issues and possibly other emotional baggage that complicates their ability to have a more serious relationship. However, they are so strongly drawn to each other and do not want to let go.

Nine Inch Nails – Kinda I Want To Lyrics 8 years ago
Regardless of what Trent had in mind when he wrote this song, I think that it could have multiple interpretations, whether it be about drugs or relationship choices that we know aren't best for us. Generally, it's about giving in to temptation, even if it is destructive. I can even see "Kinda I Want To" being about infidelity or being the "other" person in a relationship.

Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics 8 years ago
I think this song is about using sex as a way of coping with emptiness, pain, self-hatred/low self-esteem, etc. The "you let me complicate you" can also indicate that the person has a lot of baggage and through sex with someone, they are using it as a way to find relief and gain a sense of control that they once lost.

The lyrics:
Help me
I broke apart my insides
Help me
I've got no soul to sell
Help me
The only thing that works for me
Help me get away from myself

^This part is very telling. Just like when later he says "help me become somebody else." Sex becomes an escape from reality and makes him feel powerful/"closer to God." It's about a broken person who uses sex as an outlet, likely with a partner where he has the dominant role. It's a high for him.

The Sisters of Mercy – More Lyrics 8 years ago
I love The Sisters of Mercy and this song. It describes how I've been feeling about someone lately. To me, it describes someone who may be in the beginning of a relationship with someone, but they run hot and cold...maybe that person was hurt before, and they are afraid of giving their heart away again. Therefore, it leaves you wanting more. You want that person to be more "demanding," because it makes you feel wanted and needed...just the way you feel about them. It's a song about longing for that person; needing them to let down the walls they've built around them so that they can let you in to their heart completely.

Fleetwood Mac – Gold Dust Woman Lyrics 8 years ago
I think overall this is about a woman with a strong, tough exterior (likely a rock star) who may be self-destructive and often feels lost. She has been hurt before, and perhaps feels lost. Also, she does not let on that she feels this way beneath all the the sex, drugs, and rock and roll. A break down of the lyrics:

Rock on gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon
Dig your grave

-"Gold dust woman" leads me to believe the obvious drug reference; about a woman who lives in the fast lane. "Dig your grave," meaning it can lead to a downward spiral and that she is going down that path.

Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I'll pray

*A little ambiguous, but she must pick her path that she'll make choices moving forward that will not lead to death since her life is plagued with darkness where she is trying to mask this with drugs and sex to fill a void. Eventually, it catches up with you.

Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise loves to go down
Lousy lovers pick their prey
But they never cry out loud
Cry out

*This has something to do with waking up in the morning and facing the aftermath of the night before and how the cycle repeats itself (the sunrise loves to go down). The second part about lousy lovers: I think she is referring to how she has a lot of sex where there is nothing else to it- just sex. She wants more for herself, but she's broken. They don't cry at night, but she does.

Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
And is it over now do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.

-She's turning it around on the lovers, meaning she didn't make them cry or break down, but she has, and her view of love is shattered. When a night is over with one of her lovers, she often does not know how to pick up the pieces since she is unfulfilled. Maybe someone she was in love with hurt her in the past, and the meaningless sex is only a "quick fix." She is bitter, and does not know if she can trust again.

Rock on ancient queen
Follow those who pale
In your shadow

-Perhaps if she is a rock star, she is referring to her followers. Or if she is a groupie, she is looking up to other rock star women who have led this lifestyle who have been in her shoes.

Rulers make bad lovers
You better put your kingdom up for sale
Up for sale

-When she feels a lover is controlling her emotions, she knows they are no good for her. She knows she shouldn't be involved with certain people and they need to put their "kingdown up for sale" and move on.

Pale
Shadow
Of a woman
Black widow
Pale
Shadow
Of a dragon
Dust woman

*I think the "shadow" reference paints a story about her past haunting to her. In fact, it is a very haunting, beautiful song. The shadow of a dragon reference may refer to drugs and the black widow may refer to herself...not necessarily a widow, but a scorned woman. This is just my two cents! Love this song.
