Frank Ocean – Thinkin' Bout You Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Damn, I love reading everyone's thoughts on these lyrics. It's really interesting. Oh, and btw mwantero, you asked in your first response if you think that the 'black and white' line has to do with racial boundaries preventing the relationship from going further. I don't think that's the kind of thing that would stop either of them from being together if being together is what they both wanted. Bigotry against bi-racial relationships is sooo last century... an OF member wouldn't care about that :P It's about us still not being able to reach a point in history where people can just love whoever they want without any social repercussions. Two men can't love each other openly because it's not socially acceptable, ESPECIALLY in the hip hop community.... It sucks. This is why what he's saying is so important. |
Frank Ocean – Thinkin' Bout You Lyrics | 11 years ago |
mwanteroon, you know I've actually also thought about what you said about the line "Til it turns from color to black and white" and whether it was a race thing. It could also be just a way of him saying that he wished things were simpler, that it was more black and white and not the complicated relationship they have. And I don't really know why but I kind of feel like the guy in question is either white or hispanic. Maybe it's that line that planted that thought in my brain, idk. I also have it in my mind that the guy is/was in the military. There are like 3 different songs that allude to the military in some way, including this one (the fighter jet line). I don't know, I've just been listening to Channel Orange constantly since it dropped and this is the shit I think about lol |
Frank Ocean – Strawberry Swing Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It's kind of sad and uplifting at the same time and I love that sort of thing. And right on cue, when he sings "Cry, cry, cry," I do. But the thing that gets me the most is the alarm clock buzzing at the end like it was all a dream. |
Frank Ocean – Thinkin' Bout You Lyrics | 11 years ago |
In light of his recent blog 'confession,' I really really think this song is about the relationship he was talking about in it. His first love. Frank said that the guy he was in love with wouldn't admit he had the same feelings when Frank told him how he felt. I think the verses of this song are fragments of their conversations with each other. Like, this verse is the guy's response after Frank's confession: "No, I don't like you, I just thought you were cool enough to kick it" "Since you think I don't love you, I just thought you were cute That's why I kiss you" And this verse is Frank's response to the guy after he admits he feels the same way years later. Or I don't know, could still be from the guy's point of view...once they see each other again. .... I haven't decided: "Yes, of course I remember, how could I forget how you feel? And though you were my first time, A new feel. It won't ever get old, not in my soul Not in my spirit, keep it alive We'll go down this road 'Til it turns from color to black and white" Frank is an inspiration. Incredibly talented.... And I now have an even greater respect for him and his courage to say what he said and speak straight from the heart. What I'm talking about: http://frankocean.tumblr.com/post/26473798723 |
New Look – The Ballad Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm sure some of the lyrics are incorrect, but I tried my best. Anyway, I think the band members said they wrote this song in support of a friend. The lyrics of this song, to me, sound like they were written like an "intervention" for an some kind of addict. It's a beautiful song and I can't stop listening to it. |
Raffi – Down By The Bay Lyrics | 13 years ago |
omg lol |
Sia – Oh Father Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sia's cover is really beautiful and emotional. |
Des Ark – two hearts are better than one Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sounds to me like she's a married woman ("I've got this anchor on my finger, now") but she's in love with someone else ("honey, we could live a life of cowardess / or we could build a little bower nest / something to believe in / besides this awful mess") and fantasizes about running away together ("we'll get a little plane to Napoli / we'll buy some land a build a family") It's heart-breaking. She sounds like she's on the verge of tears throughout the whole song |
Irving Berlin – What Can You Do With a General Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I love White Christmas and I love this song :D |
Warpaint – Undertow Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Okay, so I was listening to this song the other day and I suddenly realized what it's about. Infidelity. A guy who is already in a relationship has fallen in love with her and is now facing a dilemma because he really likes this new girl so he's like 'why did you have to appear in my life!' ...to which she responds with the lyric, "Why you wanna blame me for your troubles?" The part where she sings "Open your eyes and there was someone else. Now I've got you in the undertow," is about kind of putting the guy under her spell and tangling him up in this love affair. And now he's gotta learn his lesson .... "you better learn your lesson yourself" |

Kate Bush – The Saxophone Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
As much as I like this song, no song should ever contain the word "bowels" Ever. |
Sufjan Stevens – The Dress Looks Nice on You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think "I can see a lot of life in you" is one of the most beautiful comments one can receive. Some people think the repetition is kind of annoying, but I think it just intensifies the message. He doesn't just want you to hear what he's saying, he wants you to listen to it and absorb it. |
Shad – I Don't Like To Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"They don't buy it, I say don't buy it--pirate me If it's ill, it'll spread virally fom my received folders to Appearin' in the love that the crowds show If it sound dope, keep it on the download Keep it real, player with the volume cranked And I'll be ballin like Tim Duncan, callin' bank Cash banked it, but the bank said That my check's been bouncing like the bankhead So I'm bad like credit while they bear styles More plain than the air miles; borrowed metaphors from mega-stores to get rewards" Shad is an amazing emcee and I SO wish there were more hip hop artists like him out there. |

I kind of agree with Calexico. I like A to G A LOT more, although I think this is more clever. A to G just sounds better to me.... |

Some of the most exquisite harmonies I have ever heard are in this song. It is positively gorgeous. I cannot stop listening to it. |
James Morrison – You Make It Real Lyrics | 15 years ago |
To me, it's about the one person who can keep you grounded in the crazy whirlwind of life. Or like nothing really means anything until it can be shared with that person. This is my favorite song on the album. I think it's absolutely beautiful!!!!!!! |
James Morrison – fix the world up for you Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is such an amazing song!! I love the soulful feel of it and James' voice is amazing.... I love the whole theme of trying to make the world a better place just to please one person. And I like the idea of being willing to change your whole life just to be worthy of the love of a certain someone. Gorgeous. |
Blue Foundation – Eyes on Fire Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is my favorite song off the Twilight soundtrack. I LOVE the vocals at the very beginning of the song. Was this song written specifically for the movie or was it just used on the soundtrack?? |
k-os – Sunday Morning Lyrics | 16 years ago |
K-Os is an amazing lyricist and poet. I think everyone pretty much covered this song's meaning, but I'm just throwing in my two cents. I bought the "Twilight Mix" mp3 of this song on Amazon.com. The lyrics are the same obviously, but the beat is a little different. I prefer it to the original. Check it out: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_dmusic/104-0253227-3010370?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=k-os+sunday+morning |

Spring Awakening – The Song Of Purple Summer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I've never seen this musical but my aunt has and she has the CD so I've heard the songs. I'm guessing this song is about their "spring awakening" but all I know is it's really pretty!!! |
Sara Bareilles – Gravity Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Thirded! Yeah, Beautiful song. I really like her voice, too. |
Sara Bareilles – Love Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I like the demo version of this song better than the CD version because it's just her and the piano. I looooooove piano in this song. The melody just repeats throughout the entire song, but I can't stop listening to it. |
Stabbing Westward – Save Yourself Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"We're our own dragons as well as our own heroes and we have to rescue ourselves from ourselves." -Tom Robbins This song kicks fucking ass. |
Chris Rice – The Face Of Christ Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love this song because it addresses the notion of seeing the divine presence in us all. One should never look down on someone just because of differences or because they do not share the same priviledges as you. You could just as easily have ended up in that position. You're lucky to have the life that you have so you should cherish that, but respect others, as well, because we're all connected. We're all part of the same realm and we're all the same in God's eyes. |
Chris Rice – Welcome To Our World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Obviously, this song is a welcoming of the long-awaited Messiah, with open arms, into the world. It emphasizes all the good which was to come of it and reminds us that His new presence filled our "hungry souls" and "[made] us holy," saving us by offering himself. By the way, I believe the actual lyric is: Fragile finger sent to heal us |
Chris Rice – The Untitled Hymn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm not a Christian so maybe it's weird that I like this song, but I love the idea behind it. "Come to Jesus and live." ...what a beautiful idea. To me this lyric, in essence, signifies that you can save you from yourself. And Chris Rice sings with a very soothing intonation so it makes the song more appealing. |
Chris Rice – Smell The Color 9 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sometimes, keeping your faith is hard. Once in a while a person wants some kind of message or sign that God is out there watching over you and listening to you. But if you know that God is transcendent of all Being (meaning you can't "know" God in the way you know your neighbor, Jim; you can't shake His hand or sit and chat with Him) then you understand that faith is really all you've got. After that, you realize that faith is all you really need. If you possess faith then you possess God. |
Nichole Nordeman – I Am Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Okay, I love this song enough to warrant another comment. (Why is nobody else commenting on this brilliant song? :( ) As I've said in comments on some of her other songs, I'm not a Christian, but I love the idea of someone feeling this kind of loving-presence in every aspect of their life; motivating them to do good, consoling them when they're feeling blue, and encouraging them to grow and be happy and to try and make others happy, as well. That's the part about Christianity that I really like. It comforts and consoles you to know that there is someone always there watching over you, by your side no matter what life throws at you. Someone you can always talk to whenever you feel the need. An unconditional love that gives you the strength in life to overcome adversity and follow your dreams. The theme of Love is my favorite part about Christianity. Giving Love culminates in receiving Love. (Listen to "The Hand Song" by Nickel Creek for further understanding...or you can just look up the lyrics on SongMeanings and see what I'm talking about) Best part: The winds of change, And circumstance blow in and all around us so we find a foothold that’s familiar, And bless the moments that we feel You nearer. |
Nichole Nordeman – Every Season Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm not a Christian so I don't interpret this song in the same way that a Christian would, but I still believe in its meaning. I know she wrote it for a friend's funeral but I think the message she was trying to get across was that we grow from our experiences and it changes us a little as a result, muh in the same way as the passing of a season. A new season represents a new start. Good things happen and bad things happen and it's all part of a bigger picture. It's the cycle of nature. The great balance of life. One of the main reasons I enjoy Nichole Nordeman's music so much even though I'm not a Christian, is because she's kind of ambiguous in her lyrics. Yes, she makes Christian music, but her songs can still hold meaning outside of the boundaries of Christianity. Her songs examine the happenings of life and how the Divine Mystery ties it all together for her, specifically. But I can still listen to it and tie it all together in my own way. In the following part of the lyrics, I interpret the word "You" as meaning Nature in its grander scale: "So it is with You And how You make me new With every season's change And so it will be as You are recreating me Summer Autumn Winter Spring" |
Rosie Thomas – I Run Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yes, this song is amazing. Beautiful vocals. It's my second favorite Rosie Thomas song (after Death Came and Got Me) so far. I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to be interpreted, but I kind of see it as the way we escape from reality at different points in our lives. I see the first verse as when she's a little girl escaping the reality that she has to grow up so she runs to her special place in the yard. The second verse is more towards adolescence and early adulthood where you feel insecure and you feel like you just want to end everything, hence: "And I'm praying my savior would just place a gun in my hands." The third verse is, I think, what happens to you if you escape from reality too much. You begin to get caught up in the fantasy world you've created and insanity creeps up on you. We all have our own ways of "running away" or escaping reality. When she says "I run far from you" I don't think she's talking about a person; I think "you" is supposed to represent reality. We all have our own ways of escaping into our worlds of "mermaids and stars" to "escape who [we've] become." Awesome song. |
Kate Havnevik – Timeless Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Oh...duh fixt ;) |
Kaki King – Jessica Lyrics | 17 years ago |
So, apparently Kaki King is a lesbian. I never knew this about her until today, actually. Yeah, I guess this song is about this girl, Jessica, that she liked but was too young for her at the time. Apparently, Jessica told her she'd wait for her, but the lyric, "trying to remember love that never really was" indicates that Jessica didn't end up waiting for her. I think there were just certain memories or certain moments that were going through her head as she was composing this song so she thought she would add a couple lyrics wherever she thought they fit. Actually, what I really want is for someone to listen to her song, "My Insect Life" and add those lyrics to SongMeanings because I've listened to that song bunches of times and I'd really like to know what she's saying! All I could ever decipher was the part where she says, "Notes I learn[ed]/ So beautiful/ The day begins in my insect life" Otherwise...nothin' :( |
Kate Havnevik – New Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The instrumental part in the beginning of the song is one of the most beautiful compositions I've ever heard (in this musical genre). And I love the transition into the lyrical part of the song. This song's about that feeling you get when you're in love and everything in the world around you is beautiful and you're just happy to be alive in it. |
Rosie Thomas – Time Goes Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Just what Bluebell Field said. This song is self-explanatory. It makes me feel nostalgic and remember all the memories I wish could have lasted forever. And one other thing.... I'm almost postivie you have one of the lines of lyrics wrong. The lyric should be: "Along the ocean with the top down and life held meaning." What you wrote doesn't even really make sense. Fix please?? :( |
Susanna And The Magical Orchestra – Love Will Tear Us Apart Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Susanna is one of those rare artists that you can hear the emotion in her voice when she sings. This is a cover song, originally recorded by Joy Division, I believe, and it's been covered by a few other bands...but I absolutely love this version. She sings it so beautifully. When I hear this song I think of two people in a relationship that are kind of growing apart from each other and they feel like the relationship has come to a stand-still. They separate but ultimately come together again for some reason they can't really figure out. They love each other, but they know deep down that it's coming to an end...or really, that it's been over for some time. "Our respect runs so dry Yet there's still this appeal That we've kept all our lives Love, love will tear us apart again" I also think this lyric is written so perfectly: "When the routine bites hard" The imagery fits so well. It's you realizing so suddenly how monotonous your life is that it feels like you've been bitten...hard. But that credit goes to the writer of the song, I suppose. This is one of those songs that I put on repeat and just listen. |
Rosie Thomas – Farewell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I never thought of this song as being about a father-daughter relationship, but I like krisk's description of how s/he sees it. The meaning of this song, for me, is simply LETTING GO. |
Rosie Thomas – Death Came and Got Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I guess this puts me in the category of someone who likes sad, girly, emo-like music, but I really really love this song and its simplicity. I agree with Kittycollartight, everyone can relate to this song at some point in their life. Definitely me, at least. |
Butterfly Boucher – A Bitter Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Some of the lyrics you put up are wrong :( Please fix them. The song is: * All I need is a bitter song To make me better Much better All I need to write is a bitter song To make me better Much better It found me to hold me But I don't like it at all Won't feed it, Won't grow it It's folded in my stomach; It's not fair, I found love; It made me say that. Get back, You'll never see daylight; If I'm not strong it just might. All I need is a bitter song To make me better Much better All I need to write is a bitter song To make me better I feel better I feel better * This is a beautiful song. She has a really nice voice. I see it as her not wanting to fall in love, knowing it would end up making her bitter in the end but, of course, she couldn't help it. "It's not fair, I found love; It made me say that." |
Disney – Stay Awake (Mary Poppins) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Switchfoot – Sooner Or Later (soren's Song) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
