I saw a page, probably with an AI generated interpretation, that put escapism as the central theme of the song, which I think is actually a good summary.

How to judge it is another matter. I personally interpret it as criticism because of the sleazy and comical tone Jagger puts into the voice of the announcer guiding the visitor of the cabaret through the show, its customs, services, promises. After all, the song depicts the methods of the sex industry from the very beginning when some guy obviously invites a passer-by to join the event inducing a kick of dopamine with the line "they're naked and they dance". The implicit promises of fulfilling a perceived need are empty ones, though, of course, as this kind of business lives off of one of men's weaknesses: sexual pleasure without commitment. The announcer even condones the visitors to lie to and this cheat their wives. Not to mention of the exploitation of the young women involved who do it to pay their bills.
Given Jagger's, or the Rolling Stones', for that matter, reputation, I'm not entirely sure that that interpretation is what they had in mind, though.
I think this song is be about Mexican immigrants or migrant workers riding big gray buses (elephants) into the U.S., feeling judged by the locals. "Borracho, cansado, do you know what the people say?": that's Spanish for drunk and tired. Then the chorus section tells us what the subjects are feeling: far from home, optimistic about the future, proceeding bravely in the names of the loved ones they left behind.

Five years since the last post and 14 since the first. Not expecting any readers, but I just had a moment of clarity that felt so very good
I find the song difficult to make the same rhythm as when i play it and try to sing along in English <br /> but atleast i now really know the meaning of the song

I always read this as a song about rape instead of literal murder, and the abortion theory has never set with me very well either.

I did recently come across a story recently about the murder of a young girl by 2 juveniles in Birmingham Alabama in which one of the convicted murderers was named Kinder. He was sentenced to life without parole which was later found to be an unconstitutional sentence for a juvenile so Mr. Kinder was set to be paroled just before the recording of "Brutal Youth", the problem was that the judge in the case still refused to release Mr. Kinder as ordered which propelled the case into the national media.
"Here in the Bible belt boys like to have fun" - Birmingham, Al
"A stonewashed damsel on a junk food run" - the victim and her date were chosen because of their proximity to a Mrs. Winner's fast food chicken restaurant the murderers intended to rob after putting the victims in the trunk of their own car
The 2 boys attempted the robbery but were spooked by the woman in the drive through window screaming that the restaurant was being robbed at which point they drove away arguing about whether or not they needed to kill the unfortunate lovers in the trunk since they could identify them. Apparently Mr. Kinder asked that the girl not be killed but his accomplice decided to do it anyway while Mr. Kinder sat in the car "taking up space". The girl's date survived and made his way onto a nearby porch where a resident called police and the 2 kids were caught.
The sexual angle seems to be an invention on Elvis' part as I didn't find any reference to the girl being raped.
Throughout the song, lead vocalist Tyler Joseph is “navigating” through his head, a phrase he repeats to illustrate the spiral he goes down when confronted with difficult thoughts and fears, such as his family leaving him one day.

Fold, like folding a parachute.

This is the wrong song. Beat Of My Heart is a different song. This song right here is 'Break My Heart'. Beat Of My Heart and Break My Heart are both singles in the 2005 album Most Wanted and these are 2 separate singles.

There is a version of the song with a different second verse. In the acoustic version, from Spotify, (open.spotify.com/track/5cE2nMYDgYj9gqG4KLafKy) the verse:

Isn't that interesting?

I think this song was about a man & woman who live together in a socially traditional way. She does everything she wants because he doesn't want to do anything she's supposed to do ... i.e. cooking, cleaning, pleasing him in bed etc. Her role holds her back from changing the world because she hasn't gotten around to it yet ... "she's going to" means exactly that. She can't read his mind, doesn't need him, and knows she wants a divorce but won't do it. The song came out, September 21, 1999, about a little over...

They divorced when the youngster was 4 years old & he immediately married Yoko Ono. (Vicky Karayiannis) Why? Go Figure Go Figure... ( @LivingstonMusic ) youtube.com/shorts/H1iGUfIbZ4s
