He received love from this woman, who still torments him. But, I don't think she returned it in the degree he gave it to her, possibly an un-matchable extent. It is possible that she underestimated his feelings, obviously endless, as she 'held his heart so tightly', yet still 'did not know that he was there' , i take it as she didn't see just what he felt. And, 'I beg the night just to see her......just to lie in her arms'. He just wants to be with her, in her arms. I know exactly how he feels. :(
