To me, this song is about verbal abuse. The person isn't getting hit literally, as he doesn't have scars to show, abuse without a blow. I think he's saying he wants to be himself, and he will leave to do that, although he doesn't like being alone. Its better than not having his individuality. Basically: I didn't take what you said to heart, you couldn't break this family up, I tried my best, you wanted more. Its too late though, you don't owe me anything. So as hard as it is, I'm over it.
