I think that this song is about total and utter devotion. He knows nothing and noone other than his significant other, and he'd gladly let his entire life go up in smoke [no pun intended] if he could only have her love. Perhaps he thinks by sacrificing his entire life (letting it burn), he'll get her approval.
I know how he feels, I've felt the same way for this guy...
But compromising yourself is one of the worst things that you can do.
