Cover art for Home Is a Fire lyrics by Death Cab for Cutie

You fools. In this song, DCFC is simply and literally worrying about the megathrust earthquake which the Cascadia Subduction Zone is due to produce. The CSZ is a long fault line along the west coast, stretching from British Columbia past WA, OR, and northern CA. DCFC, if you were unaware, are Seattle natives. The CSZ ruptures at regular intervals, approx 280-350 years. The last rupture was Jan. 26th 1700, so it is due - in fact, overdue going by intervals from the past 4000 years.

Related: the song Lunchmeat by Menomena reflects the same anxiety about the same event, particularly the associated tsunami that will immediately follow the earthquake. They were/are also Pacific Northwest natives.
