I see the part about Bruce and Pattie and Billy and Christie-- and I know who he is referring to. But what is the point? Is it that those couples are together and, under the indifference of heaven, poor Warren is single?
I think the inclusion of these celebrity couple names has that inimitable Warren Zevon touch; but if he isn't pointing toward his feelings about his current romantic plight, then it doesn't cohere with the song as a whole. On the other hand, if he is pointing toward his romantic plight, he weakens a lyric that is supposed to have something to do with the indifference of heaven. Heaven is rarely, if ever, indifferent to anyone's romantic plight.
