Thought of this song today, and now I'm playing it on my guitar and singing. Some nice alliterations always help you learning the lyrics: loving/long, shelter/shower/stepped/Soho, wind/whisteling, sang/sorrows, covered/cloak, for/future, talking/time/thinking. Brill!
On the romantic/alcohol question: I've always held the firm belief that whatever the songwriter(s) says about a song, the meaning and interpretation is always up for grabs (many reasons for that, the sub-concious us only one). I see it as a romantic song with a distinct taste of drink :)
