Steven Page explained the meaning of chorus girl when he played at delcrary park in Peterborough Ontario when he was promoting his first solo album, "page one."

In one sense, the song is about his splitting up from the Barenaked ladies over artistic differences. He enjoyed fame and wealth with the Barenaked ladies, but he "gave it all up for the chorus girl." Moreover, the song is really about chasing that perfect chorus line. The one that unites the crowd on a deep human level and has everyone singing along, waving their hands in unison to the melody, just experiencing something beautiful and deeply profound, together as one people... Yet he can never quite find that perfect chorus.

I'm uncertain if this was his intention (though i believe it was), but i love how the song finally starts to hit that beautiful, moving melody at the end, and i can't help but feel deeply impacted by it... Yet it just floats off into nothingness, leaving the audience wanting more, moved but never quite satisfied. And here is where (whether on purpose or by accident) the true genius and art of this song shines through. The perfect chorus that never was, and never will be. Yet we yearn for it just the same and never stop seeking.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the most slept on songs in music history. It's absolutely beautiful. Hauntingly so.
