Lyric discussion by Templin

Cover art for This Is War lyrics by 30 Seconds to Mars

I see this song as a song calling for peace. It's doing this through criticism of war itself and how it affects everyone and how chaotic and destructive it is. The song itself feels very frantic and aggressive. With the "to the right, to the left" line especially, there's this feeling of chaos.

Obviously, then there's the bridge and how it's speaking about how the war is won and how we can reach "toward the sun" or, as I interpret it, toward a bright new future, alluded to the by the "Brave New World". And while the argument could be made that the Brave New World is in reference to the dystopian novel and how we're there already and must fight back. It comes at the end when the war is done.

My final bit of evidence is the music video on YouTube. 30 Seconds to Mars starts it with "This a song about peace." And I have no idea where the final chunk of lyrics came from, they're not in the song. I know this because I had the song on loop while writing this.
