A lot of Bernard's lyrics are essentially alphabites stuck together, if the words rhyme that's the main thing.
But...there's usually an essential meaning behind the song, I get feeling this is about an unpleasant and unsuccessful relationship in which Bernard feels he has been the injured party (funnily enough I can't remember one where he plays the role of the perpetrator or bad actor, he should have written a couple). Sounds like the song is through the lens of a trauma bonded person who has chosen to walk away and settle on the narrative that they were the victim and this other person is the perpetrator.
