This is one of my top 3 songs of theirs. In my interpretation I think it’s two people meeting during a rough patch of their lives and relying on each other, hence the lyrics “well, you know I’m cold” and “you know that your souls black top under-lacing won’t let it go”. Another good lyric to back that up for me is “You and me found love lost under the shade” pointing to that it’s hard to find someone you can trust and look to for support and they were able to find that safety in each other. Now toward the middle of the song to me it’s like they become to dependent on each other but one partner isn’t changing, and in the end the girl or “she” as in the lyrics “she wont chase him anymore” gives up. The ending lyrics such as “come back to my heart” is the “him” in this case calling her back to him for a second chance. Again this is just how I’ve interpreted it, there are so many other ways to put these lyrics, even if the band or musician tells you the story behind it there will always be different ways to see it because we all relate to it in different ways.
