Having ZERO concept it reflects a real past situation, I totally put together a different concept of the relationship between the lines.
I thought a man found himself in a dive bar with a younger woman with daddy issues who wouldn't refuse him. "She could never say that flat-out she don't want me". He thought he was doing HER a favour despite himself, because she was perhaps figuratively a runaway and there was drugs involved. And he had to help put her back where she belonged as he realized this was somebody's daughter, whatever her true age. But he felt a bit like a whore and diminished. And there was some kind of sea change for the man through the experience of dealing with her shit, but ultimately he felt like she had major daddy issues because her father made other plans than being a dad and abandoned her so she was adrift in life. "And the life you would not give or break your plans" was that the young woman was like her father, "a squatter".
The end. I am so sorry to butcher the meaning with my BS interpretation lol. Also "For your lies at night to sleep between my hands" representing the lack of trust with a lover.
Also "Go put it in the ground" reminds me of burying the yoyo in the Kate Bush song Cloudbusting. I mean why not bury it.
