This song is an accumulation of all of Robb Flynn's anxieties, fears, and rage at what was happening in his personal life and with the music scene at the time. It's his desperate search for healing and salvation. Basically, guitarist Logan got into fights with the band because of his cocaine addiction, Robb was suffering from body dysmorphia and was always vomiting after gorging himself, nu-metal and grunge were becoming the dominant sound in the industry, and his style was falling out. Since Robb didn't want Machine Head to stick to the same sound and evolve, they followed the trend of Korn and Slipknot. He's since stated it was a natural progression of the band, based on their original sound and his overall singing style being similar already to the rap style of nu-metal.
The song itself was something he wasn't sure he wanted to include, being afraid to include it for being such a drastic shift in sound; It being their first proper soft ballad track.
