I know this song is about an addict in his relationship but from my pov i chose to look at it differently.
I think of it as a person with two personalities or a person with a soft, loving and a dead inside emotionally unavailable side.
And the dead inside side speaks to his soft part like he's compressing his feelings and emotions away as he fears to feel pain again.
As a result, his hatred grows and magnify even more. But yet his soft part tries to survive, for moments it feels love and compassion towards people that care about him or the person he likes but can't admit because he's afraid to feel pain.
But in the end life keeps hitting you with fake romance or betrayals from people you love.
And that's why we all on skinned knees we crawl, to survive and try to live through it.
