I think a lot of interpretations here are based on a misunderstanding of what “the dog days” are. The “dog days” refer to summer … and here it is about the “summer” of a person’s life … it’s now over, and bad things have caught up to her. I think lots of people mistakenly view “dog days” as bad times, but it is actually the opposite.
