He is talking about a relationship that has failed and he has to come to terms with it. “Are you feeling happy?” He has experienced an implosion of self, he was too cowardly, meek and afraid to trust his instincts and go for love and truth. “Dirt shoveled over shoulders”. He has no one to blame but himself. I love this song for it’s vulnerability and I relate it to my own experiences.
