This is a a much catchier song than I recall. I think the interpretation of shallow versus deep applies to the depth of the relationship. In the deep end you have to know how to stay afloat or you drown. Additionally,as a swimmer, you must consider that you cannot dive in shallow waters without risking damage. To enjoy diving into water/relationship, you must have depth.
