The imagery of the leveler itself is obviously Christian but I think it's reductive to say it's only a power that God has especially with the line "The victim in me is dead, I am reborn" earlier. A force that lays waste to the relationship itself but also the patterns that led there. A whole sense of self dying and being remade post-betrayal with new more righteous roads to walk afterwards.
