It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken Lyrics

This song hits hard because I think it reflects life, any life. One of the most melancholy songs I know. To me the shaky movement refers to making love, the start of a relationship, its ups and downs. But relationships don't always last, and you're left with what you wish for yourself and for others, maybe even promised your former lover: let's get friendship right, in a current health to stay. Get with the times, don't get (too) old, but remember who we were. And when you get into the nightmare of whatever woe you face, don't hang your head but proceed on a need-to-know. Take life as it comes. Leave, alone or together, to where you are needed, to grow. To me this song is a celebration of life, whatever it may bring.

I'm writing this as I'm leaving teaching this week, so it's on repeat in my head, just back after all those years to comfort me. No idea what I'll do next, I'll just go where I'm needed.
