Genesis Lyrics

One of the most moving and meaningful love songs I know of. Falling in love at first is the subject of so many songs, and that’s the easy part. But to acknowledge differences (“you say I’m harder than a wall”) during troubled times (“skies of blue have turned to gray”) and still be able to recommit and know “I love you dearer than them all,” and to say “so let me come with you” - that’s real love. And it’s hard, and it hurts going through the troubled times, but on the other side of it you’re part of something special and lasting.

Jorma did get divorced from his first wife 5 years after writing this song, but at the age of 84 he’s now been married to his second wife for 37 years. Committed relationships aren’t easy but lasting love is worth the effort, and that’s what I hear when I listed to this song.
