The way I have interpreted this song is that a young girl likes a young man and will do anything to win over his affection but talk to him. She mentions how she walked into the room dripping in gold while he only just kept his gaze controlled, and not that she just talked to him. she keeps doing this gestures thinking that it’ll make him notice her besides just talking to him! she attempts to try and figure out how to talk to him with the lyrics “rehearsed steps on an empty stage” and i’m guessing she’s planning out what to say to him but when she does, he doesn’t realize she wants him and is not seeing the hints.
