Here’s my interpretation of the lyrics

“Baby Girl, I'm a blur; I spoiled, stunted, sickened her.”

This girl is someone he has a crush on. He spoils her and he sickens her. He’s trying many things to get with this girl.

“God and Death are none of my concern, I'm no philosopher.”

He’s saying that religion and death is not important to him. He only cares about this girl.

“Deep in your heart stitched the key, and only one can set me free From the beast where I dwell and let the saints all burn in hell”

He saying this girl is the only one who can set him free from his inner demons and personal struggles. He wants this girl so badly that he would let all the saints burn in hell just to be with this girl.

“So take what you want from me, (I'm on my way) heyyyy And take all I've got from me, (I'm on my way)”

He willing to let this girl take everything he has if that’s what it’ll take to get with her.

“You're with me all the time, the drugs can have my mind, love You own the rest, you'll find, and you're with me all the time”

He’s obsessed with this girl and thinks about her all the time. He’s a drug addict and lets the drugs take over. You own the rest you’ll find is a lyric that I’m not quite sure of the meaning. I think it means that he won’t be upset if she dates other guys but no matter who she dates she’ll always be on his mind.

“On the roof, burning black, the city smoked from the attack, but on the roof, we love the beast to death, with sweat and whiskey breath”

He’s on the roof smoking looking over at the city. He’s high and seeing the building as burning. He’s started to be delusional or really drunk and imagines her with him (it’s mostly likely him being drunk because of the line whiskey breath at the end of the verse).

Next is the pre-chorus and chorus again.

“We'll fall right down; We'll get back up again, thats how we'd be; you and me.”

He’s trying to convince her to date him. He’s saying how they would be if they were together.

“I would not crowd, I would not smother you, I'd let you breathe, over me.”

He’s saying that he would give her space and wouldn’t take over her life.

“We're on a sinking ship, we're escapin it We're on a sinking ship, we're escapin it We're on a sinking ship, we're escapin it”

He’s saying that if she were to date him it would be saving her. This is his last desperate attempt to date her before she rejects him.

“You're with me all the time You're with me all the time with me all the time You're with me all the time”

She rejected him but he’s still obsessed with her.

“No matter where I go or whore my mind, I'll always stumble home and pray i'll find you with your flame-throw eyes and jilted smile so you can soothe my wounds and drain my bile.”

No matter who he dates or has sex with in the future he will still think of her. He imagines coming home drunk and seeing her there. She would be upset with him with her “flame throw eyes” but she would still help him feel better.

This song is about this guy who has a crush on this girl. He’s completely obsessed and tries to convince her to dare him but she rejects him anyways but he can’t get over and is forced to spend the rest of his days obsessing over her no matter who he gets with in the future.

@HunterConrad I really enjoyed reading your interpretation of this song. I find with Say Anything songs there is always so much more to read than what is just on the page. This was the first music video of theirs I actually ever watched.

Lioliolio, thank you for your reply. This was also the first Say Anything music and song I ever heard. It got me into the band and it’s the best song by my favorite band.
