I think this is about an addict with behavioral health issues who kicks it by giving their life to another person.
The vitamin tablet is an antidepressant or something of the sort. The “junkyard fool” can score for them or perhaps a metaphor for the drug itself.
“I asked him time again, take me in and dry the rain.” I need a fix. I need to be ok.
When the melodica or trumpet or whatever it is kicks in, this is their psyche or mood. They’ve decided to try and help another with the same addiction and/or affliction.
“If there’s something inside that you wanna say, say it out loud it’ll be ok. I will be your light…”
