I always thought this song was about a father abusing his daughters, while going around shooting his guns like he didn't care at all, or see the issue in his actions.
Lots of the lyrics I heard pertaining to this - "spring is here again, reproductive glands", "nature is a whore, bruises on the fruit, tender age in bloom", "he likes all our pretty songs (girls), he likes to shoot his gun, but he knows not what it means".
