Lyricalsoul definitely stepped on a lot of toes, even if they're right. The thing is, you don't need to relate to every single line to get something personal out of the song. For me it's certainly close enough - a relationship that couldn't endure because of distance and commitments. "You and me, always between the lines" is how I'll always view it. In another life, in another time, maybe we could have stayed together. The third verse ("Thought i was ready to bleed etc.") definitely doesn't just have to apply to an illicit relationship. She couldn't stay, I couldn't go, that was it.
"Leave unsaid, unspoken", well, there's a lot of that in any doomed relationship.
"My memory is cruel, I'm queen of attention to details" - me again. Very relatable to many people. The song doesn't have to be taken as a whole with its "specific meaning". It has more than enough lines that work for other things.
It's been nine years, I know now I'll always feel this way. I hope she is happy. But we'll always be between the lines.
