I don't post often. Longtime Genesis fan. With their roots as a Progressive band, I think this is just another example of their talented songwriting and storytelling. The Squonk is a very sad imaginary creature. I don't think it's a metaphor for anything deeper than there are those of us who are misunderstood, or we see ourselves as an ugly creature. It's a very interesting creature - one of my favorite songs to listen to. Phil's vocals are great.
