In my opinion, this song is about an older man or woman who was lived a long life full of mistakes and is now going on a fine adventure with an ex-lover. It's my favourite song by the kinks, it feels a bit different to their other songs, it's not hardcore rock like Really Got Me Going or All Day and All of the Night, yet, it's not too alternative rock-y like Lola, it's a tender spot in the middle. I adore this song.
