I personally believe that this song is about religion, and how often in life people are scared of picking the wrong religion or not being religious at all. For example, the repeated line "what's he gonna do?" refers to being sent to either heaven or hell. This is made further apparent by the even more explicit line "so what you gonna take him too?' Other lines that backup this theory are: "heaven or hell" literally signifying ""god's"" choice between heaven or hell, "you got demons in your closet" refers to past demons that still haunt this person, making him belief that he may go to hell. Even the line, "what will you gain, to make your life a little longer?' about the old, scrambling man who's desperately trying to improve himself before he passes on so he can go to "heaven". Overall, I really don't care what this song means because it's great either way!
