Scott’s father was a preacher, and he grew up around people of faith. Whether Scott is saved is something only he and God truly know, but I can’t help but recognize that many of his lyrics draw directly from the Word of God such as My Own Prison. Deep down, I believe Scott holds onto some measure of faith.
Years ago, when I purchased Creed’s Human Clay album, I found myself praising and worshiping God with such deep emotion that it brought me to tears. During that moment of worship, I had a vision: I saw an album yet to be made by Creed. On the cover was an image of God’s arm and hand, with an outstretched finger reaching down from Heaven, and a man’s arm and hand with an outstretched finger reaching up from Earth. The two fingers met, symbolizing man and God becoming one.
I attended a Creed concert at the Sanger Theater in Pensacola, FL, sitting in the third row. The crowd was mesmerized, and so was I, but it was clear that many of the attendees were not Christians. For all I know, I may have been one of the few believers there. As Scott sang, many people in the audience threw up the sign of Satan, but I chose to lift my hand toward Heaven in praise.
As Creed took their final bow, I locked eyes with Scott while pointing to Heaven. In that moment, he looked surprised. I wish I could have known what he was thinking. Scott, if you ever read this, know that God loves you more than you can imagine. He loved you so much that He gave His life for you, for me, and for everyone on this earth while we were still sinners. No greater sacrifice has been given unto men.
I will continue to worship God while listening to Creed’s music, whether or not they acknowledge Him in their work only they know. But if they do, I hope that the album I saw in my vision is created before Creed’s legacy fades into history. No matter what we have done in this life, when we ask for forgiveness from our Almighty creator there is no more condemnation and if there is no more condemnation we will appear before God spotless and sinless for we are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus our King, Priest and Savior.
