Well, maybe I'm a crook for stealing your heart away And maybe I'm a crook for not caring for it And maybe I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad person Well baby, I know.

These paragraph talks about how the things started between them. It was the author/lyricist who came to that person, "you", the lover of our story. The paragraph talk about the sayings of the lover, all his blame towards the author, and the author accepting that it was her(as the song was sang by a female) fault and paraphrasing every of his words. The lover claimed that it was her who came to him and took his heart away from his body. I know it was him who fell, but the remained for her. He lived through that organ, but the heart breathed because of her soul. So it was the author who metaphorically ran this organ. Now the lover is blaming she could not care it well, it is wounded and is now bleeding with pain. In anger, the lover exclaims that she is a bad person, the same person who had his heart for so long. The exaggeration from the author of repeating "bad" four times along with the "I know" shows her acceptance.

And these fingertips, they'll never run through your skin And those bright blue eyes can only meet mine across a room Filled with people that are less important than you

She loved him "fingertips running through your(his) skin" too but not in the way he did, not with the same passion he did And those bright blue eyes can only meet mine across a room filled with people that are less important than you….one of best line of the whole song, she felt the warmth of those eyes, the priority, the possessiveness it had. She knew that it was not just an infatuation, but the feelings he felt had greater depths, "Because you love, love, love when you know I can't love." She couldn’t take that love any further. It can be that it was not possible for the author to love him exactly, because of the last "you" she claimed in the second line after the pause…. You love, love, love when you know I can't love. You love, love, love when you know I can't love, you It could also be that she came to him in her lowest state for his support and in the healing process, he fell in love with her and still she is not being able to completely heal up from her past, thus can't continue deeper into him. He was so special to her that she did not want to lose him and go through that feeling again.

To consolidate him, she said "it's best we both forget before we dwell on it" ……dwell on it….and the "we"……the memories and his feelings and hers….she is thinking that it would help themselves. The pause that came afterwards in the songs, she understood those memories could never be erased, or should never be undone "The way you held me so tight all through the night…..'Till it was near morning" But when her contemplation ended the lines came back Because you love, love, love when you know I can't love You love, love, love when you know I can't love You love, love, love when you know I can't love, you

We all feel and fall, some of us express it, some of us hide it. They hide it because none of us want to get hurt again. The lover supported the author when she needed his help, and they both love each other, but the way they perceive it is very different. They both are aware of the differences, but none of them can help.
