I can't believe how many stupid comments there are on here suggesting its a Pixies rip off. Not only is the bass line not in the same key as Debaser, the progression of notes is completely different. It's even more insulting because it was Husker Du and Bob Mould who was a huge influence on the Pixies and Frank Black not vice versa. Frank Black would have been graduating high school and beginning college when Husker Du was at their peak, the influence is impossible to ignore. Not just the Pixies either, I challenge you to show me a late 80s thru 90s rock band who wasn't influenced by Husker Du.
That said, Sugar recorded this AFTER the Pixies recorded Doolittle and he opened for them several times so it's certainly possible it was a subtle influence for him when writing Copper Blue but musically the two riffs are not the same at all, sorry.
As to the lyrics, it's classic Bob Mould dark humor, it's a love song but a a chilling one. She wants to be drowned, she thinks it's a 'good idea' . I think both the lovers are mentally unstable, it's almost like a love death pact that they have. A creepy song.
