I believe these lyrics would resonate regardless of the gender identity of either party. To me this is clearly about someone in a relationship with an alcoholic. I sense more than a little sarcasm in some of the words. Based on my personal experience, the addict thinks they “see it all” more clearly than others and likely projects their opinion on the other person(s) when they are in the mood to do so (regardless of the situation for the other person(s). This resonates with my experiences with addicts in my life. They likely wouldn’t remember what they or other people said while they are using at a later time (like the next morning/day) when they are sober. In my experience they either don’t wish to interact (or are unable) when they aren’t using.

If you are in relationship with an alcoholic (e.g., your partner, parent, sibling or child) I would bet you understand precisely what I am communicating and it likely reflects your experience as well.

If you are or have been in relationship with an alcoholic, I strongly recommend ongoing participation in Alateen/Alanon or some regular support group. You deserve acceptance and love. You don’t have to travel alone.
