For some reason I get the idea that he tells this story to his daughter about her mother Anna. That her mother is a bit weird or annoying and scares her friends away, but he tells her she was good looking in her youth and about all the stuff she been through and made her who she is, to shed some light on why her mother does the stuff she does.
