Tidal (Ellipse) Lyrics

Cover art for Tidal (Ellipse) lyrics by Imogen Heap

Imogen Heap is a genius in several aspects. Her compositions are usually full of symbolic details, she always touches deep nature of things using all kind of ways, including double meaning, etc. She is a teacher In all sense, and their lyrics are full of wisdom of the soul, even if you don't believe in its existence, there's no way you don't feel It listening to her music. In this case, for example, I think there is an important detail that nobody has mentioned before, and that is the subtle change of the lyrics "do what you feel, just how you like", but at the end the song turns to a darker sound, then it's "do what you want". It was not necessary to change de verb or the tone, so why? This point I think is crucial, because "feel" is associated with the soul, an harmonic feeling towards your true self and intuition in connection with something bigger than you as a simple human, meanwhile "want" it's just en ego response, that far from being an authentic part of your being or soul, is guided by a simple superficial and momentary desire. It's not the only song that reflects such importance subject for her. Authenticity of soul and genuine love itself is a recurrent topic in her lyrics, as It always is, for example, in "A new kind of love" (Frou Frou). She is always seeking the true meaning of purity, self honesty, and universal freedom, among other important spiritual concepts.
