This seems to be about most of the people today: they go with the hype about any new act that appears, and then ignore mostly anything that exists for more that 10 years. So the lyrics are words of a person who only knows "the early stuff" of an artist and never bothers to check out anything that was created later in their career, so the person takes it for granted that anything he/she hasn't heard of does not exist, or at least is not noteworthy.
(Just search in Wikipedia the discography of practically any artist and you will see that the sales of their albums after 10 years of existence get much lower; for example Pet Shop Boys had an incredible album "Fundamental" in 2006, but 99% of the people never tried to listen to it, they prefer anything that is new.)
